We are fortunate to live in an area where we can still see the moon and the stars at night. We don't have huge buildings around us to block the view, we are in a very small town and as of this date there are no houses behind. We had been thinking of getting a telescope for a while but had been debating as to what was best and analyzing our options, At the end, I didn't know what I was looking for so I figured an entry level one would be enough for us. This has a lot of really nice options. - The stand has three height levels and it's pretty easy to set it up - The whole thing is very light and my child can move it around freely - I suppose if you read the manual or are familiar with them, you can adjust the lense pretty quick (my husband looked at me funny when he realized I didn't know how to adjust it and had been staring at a star that was so blurry). -It comes with multiple filters and the adapter for the phone; he was able to take a very nice picture of the moon As a first telescope, it works incredibly well for us. Our son can use it and while I am sure you can get a cheaper one, I can at least vouch for this one and say that the price is worth it. ... show more

We were a little thrown by how much of the moon we could actually see. I did not realize how far this lil thing could go. EZ to put together and EZ to use. Great gift idea.
