  • Great starter telescope for young kids.
This review is for the "Telescope for Adults and Kids, 90mm Aperture 600 High-Powered Refractor Telescope for Beginners, with Achievement Misson Kit, DIY Space Sticker, Carry Bag, Dark Blue." This is a cheap telescope. There is no doubt or argument about that. You get what you pay for. That's the point for me. I'd rather have my grandkids enjoy learning about astronomy, see the moon, Jupiter and a couple moons, Saturn, and during the day look at nature with it without breaking my bank account. If they like astronomy, then they have a better telescope to look forward to. If not, I haven't gone into debt over it. The telescope is large enough to see some of our planets. It's almost impossible to see more than a smudge of a nebula. Interstellar viewing needs a reflecting mirror type for good nebula viewing imo. For the price, it's not badly made. Lenses are good enough to get into astronomy- no argument there. However, take into consideration that the tripod alone is going to wobble like crazy, so teach them to not hold the telescope when viewing a planet or you'll get seasick trying lol. The eye pieces are all plastic, so just take care using the telescope. That alone will teach kids to value what they have and reap the awards seeing jupiter, a couple weather bands on a clear night along with a couple moons. If Saturn is near, you'll see the rings. Nothing fancy, but youll see it even if a tad blurry. The telescope is large enough for it to be worthy of planetary viewing, but also nature viewing. There are a couple eye pieces that multiply the magnification factor. However, youll have a more difficult time with the higher multiplier as it has a slightly narrower view. Is it worth the money to buy a budget telescope? If the budget fits, and you want brand new, this is definately a contender. It comes complete- no need to purchase anything else other than a red light to keep eyes from adjusting back to heavy light. ... show more

  • Good starter telescope, not great tripod
I did not know what to expect with this telescope. I do astrophotography and knew going in that I needed to curb my expectations to look at this from the eyes of someone getting their first telescope. In that frame of mind, I was happy to see that this all came neatly packed in a canvas bag. It has all the parts you need for getting into astronomy. I unpacked everything, and as most guys do, skipped right past the manual packet to get it set up. For an entry-level telescope, I like the plastic body because it will be much more forgiving of bangs and bumps. The normal tube is a thin metal that dents easily. The finder scope is clear and easily adjusts in its mount. The included eye pieces are clear enough that I could read the label on a box from 75 feet away. The only thing I took any issue with, optically, was that the inner tube is shiny, so any outside light from porch lights or a full moon washes out everything, even when completely out of view. The tripod for this is horrible. It is frustrating to me, and I have used enough tripods to know a few ways to make them work. It doesn't move well, it isn't sturdy, and it walks with even the slightest touch. I didn't expect a pro-grade tripod, but this one isn't any good. That would have been enough for me to drop it down a lot of stars, but then I went back and looked at the manual packet. It comes with a really good instruction manual, which is hard to find on even nicer telescopes, and a large package of fun things to get people into astronomy. It has stickers for achieving tasks or viewing objects. There were a lot of things to get new users engaged, and showing them to my kids, who have watched me lug around telescopes for years without being interested, actually got them excited about using them. Looking at the moon, you can see the textures, especially with the included filter. When I put it on a good tripod, we could see the rings of Saturn, so it performs well optically. For the price, it is a little higher than other entry-level telescopes, but the optics and the included fun pack are pretty decent. ... show more

  • The YENGUAN telescope works great, is easy to set up and take down.
The YENGUAN 90mm Aperature 600mm High-Powered Telescope works great. This is more of an entry level telescope but I am an entry level user. This telescope works great. We had a gathering for Labor Day weekend out at the cabin and had family members over. We set this up last night and it works really good. This telescope comes with a 10mm and 25 mm lens. It also includes a 3 mgnification barlow lens as well as a moon lens. the moon lens is supposed to help you to reduce the brightness and allow you to focus more on the details of the moon. It has a telephone holder that can be used so you can look at the image on your screen rather than through the lens. That part is a bit tricky. It did work but takes some fine tuning. The telescope is a good weight. It was easy to set up and easy to adjust. It is durable and should last a very long time if properly cared for. This would make a great gift for anybody of any age. The Telescope that comes complete with a zippered carrying case is a good value for the money. ... show more

  • Fun starter telescope with badges and stickers to get your kids interested
This is a really cool and complete telescope kit to get kids excited about astronomy. We started out pointing it at the moon, and once everything was dialed in, the views were impressive. We were able to clearly see lunar craters and surface details, which was an awesome experience to share with my kids. There is a bit of a learning curve when you first set it up. I had to spend some time figuring out what each of the different lenses and attachments did, as well as getting used to the finderscope. Because the finderscope inverts movement, adjusting it takes a little patience, but once you align it with a bright target like the moon, focusing the main 90mm scope is fairly straightforward. The biggest weak point of the package is the included tripod. It is simply not as sturdy or smooth as it needs to be for high-magnification viewing. Even when fully tightened down, it tends to drift slightly, and any minor bump or touch knocks your target right out of the field of view, forcing you to re-acquire it. Using the smartphone adapter was especially tricky for this reason; modern smartphones are relatively heavy, and mounting one immediately threw off the balance and shifted the scope off-target. Upgrading to a heavier-duty, more rigid tripod down the road would make tracking objects much easier. On the educational and engagement side, the included extras are fantastic. The DIY space stickers and the mission booklet with achievement badges really captured my kids' attention and turned stargazing into a fun, interactive game. It is a great starter package for sparking an interest in space, provided you have some patience during setup and keep a steady hand around the tripod. ... show more

  • A Real Telescope That Beginners Can Actually Use
My son is fascinated by anything involving space, so this was an easy choice. A 90mm aperture and 600mm focal length give this enough optical capability to be far more than a toy while still being approachable for someone learning astronomy. We have had a great time getting it outside and exploring the night sky together. The achievement mission kit gives kids some direction instead of simply pointing the telescope randomly upward, and the space stickers were a fun extra touch. I especially appreciate the carrying bag because telescopes tend to accumulate a surprising number of separate pieces. This strikes a great balance between something a kid can get excited about and something an adult can genuinely enjoy using alongside them. It turns looking at the night sky into an activity rather than just another lesson about space. ... show more

  • A Great Beginner Telescope for Our New Darker Skies
We recently moved out of the city, and my wife and I are still amazed by how much brighter the stars are and how many more of them we can see. She got this telescope so we could start taking a closer look. This is definitely a beginner-friendly telescope, which is exactly what we needed. It comes with different eyepieces and a Barlow lens for changing the magnification, along with instructions explaining how to set everything up and find interesting things to view. Assembly was easy, even without any previous telescope experience. We haven’t tried the smartphone adapter yet, but the kit includes instructions for using it to take pictures. So far, we’re enjoying the telescope and spending a lot more time in our backyard at night. That alone makes it a winner for us. ... show more

  • Piece was broken
This telescope is cool if you have kids. However the smaller scope has three screws and one of them was broke and the other broke when I attempted to tighten it. Don't think it would survive an accidental knock over.

  • Great starter telescope for a beginner.
I happen to belong to several astronomy clubs in the area, and have a fairly high end telescope. However, I do have three grandkids that are still interested with things their Grandfather introduces them to. This starter scope is just the ticket. It is by no means even close to even a mid quality telescope. First of all he tripod is not as solid as you need for a telescope, and will vibrate enough to spoil an image of Saturn for example if somebody just walks close by it. The eyepieces themselves are just plastic rather than optical glass. However, at this price point it is a well made starter scope that may get somebody interested enough that they may want to get more into it, and upgrade. I like the simplicity of it and that it comes with a nice compact carrying case. This is small enough to throw into your trunk and it barely takes up any space. ... show more
