Frequently asked questions

The Storkcraft Portofino 5-in-1 Convertible Crib and Changer is a multi-functional nursery furniture that combines a crib and changing table with a storage drawer. It is designed to grow with your child from infancy through their teen years, as it converts from a crib to a toddler bed, daybed, and finally to a full-size bed.

The convertible crib transitions through its various stages with the help of conversion kits. Initially, it serves as a crib with a changing table. As your child grows, you can transform it into a toddler bed (safety guardrail included), then into a daybed, and finally into a full-size bed (full-size bed frame and mattress not included). Detailed instructions and all necessary parts for each conversion phase are provided.

While specific dimensions are subject to change based on manufacturing updates, the crib typically fits a standard size crib mattress. It is advisable to check the product's manual or contact the manufacturer for the most accurate and current dimensions. The changing table pad size is standard, and replacements can be easily found at most baby stores.

Yes, the Storkcraft Portofino 5-in-1 Convertible Crib and Changer comes with a limited manufacturer's warranty that covers defects in materials and workmanship. Assembly is required and is facilitated by the included step-by-step instructions. It is recommended that two adults assemble the product for safety and efficiency. For any assistance, you can always contact Storkcraft's customer service.

  • A fantastic crib and changer at a fantastic price
Color: Espresso
This was very easy for my husband to assemble and looks just as beautiful as in the photo. The espresso color matches our black-brown wooden furniture perfectly; it's a wonderful addition to our bedroom, and all the storage space it comes with (drawers in the front of the changer and shelving in the back) means not having to use any closet or dresser space for baby's things, and still having room for toys! The crib itself is very sturdy, but the changing table unfortunately won't support more than about 35 lbs of weight. Hopefully by then the little one is potty-trained anyway, but we're still going to err on the side of caution and stop using the top part of the storage compartment as a changer before then. The other issue we had with the changing station is that, as other reviewers have mentioned, the changing pad that comes with the crib is very hard and unpleasant, but it is very difficult to find a different pad to replace it that will actually fit on the changing table. Our solution was to simply "make" the Summer Infant Contoured Changing Pad (which I highly recommend -- it is very squishy and the covers are very soft and come in loads of colors) fit. With the bottom of the changing pad lined up with the bottom of the changing table (that little gap is too small for a changing pad to squish out of), we pushed the Summer Infant changing pad down so it was lying on the bottom of the changing table, which leaves about five inches extra in length curving upwards along the top. The result is basically a little elevation for the little one's head, like a gentle pillow. This works just fine for me, since I wasn't enthusiastic about baby potentially hitting his head on the bars in the back, and it still looks great. Overall these are such minor complaints compared to how awesome this crib is overall. You really can't beat the price for getting four children's beds, a dresser, a bookshelf, and a changing table all in one, especially with the quality with which it was designed. I spent months shopping around for just the right crib at just the right price and I am very, very happy with the result. ... show more

  • Great Crib, rivals anything you'll find in stores
Color: White
After shopping for cribs at a couple baby centric stores and places like Target, I came across this and for the price I could not turn it down. I was thrilled at the fact that it had a changing table/drawers which have come in handly more times than i can count. The crib is sturdy and looks very nice in our baby's room. The finish is respectable, and none of the pieces felt flimsy. Set up was a bit of a pain, but nothing too complicated, though I definatley recommend having a helper for attaching the main componets together - by that I mean, putting the sides together or when you have to screw on the base that holds the mattress. I'll just give a touch of insight into my own personal experience, so we received this crib in late spring/early summer, but chose not to build it right away due to the fact that we were moving from our small apartment to a townhouse since we were in need of extra space. By the time I got to actually sitting and setting up the crib it was the end of July and the hottest part of the summer. By then I had moved the box that this came in aat least 4 times, incuding up a steep hill and up and down many flights of stairs, so I knew the materials were at least of a good quality. When i opened the box I was greeted by the directions and then all the pieces and parts I would need. The only problem that came up was that I decided to do this in the heat of summer, in a room without the A/C or fan on, so it was a uncomfortable. The moral of all this is to say the crib itself is great, and the only problem I ran into was due to my own stubbornness in not trying to cool myself off. Speaking of the base, that is a great feature, you can adjust the base that holds the mattress up and down to several locations. This helps if you're a shorter person (like my wife) or possibly had a c-section and can't bend over too far. ... show more

  • Beautiful and Sturdy- rough shipping, but no odor
Color: White
We purchased our second Portofino (first time Espresso, second time white). We have had the espresso model for two years, and honestly once it is together this crib is beautiful and extremely solid. To compare, friends of ours gave us an old Davinci 4-in-1 that they had and the Stork Craft runs circles around it in terms of build and quality. The biggest con is that the most recent crib showed up in a box that looked like it had been through war. I was fully expecting that I was going to find most of the parts in box broken or missing, because when I drug it inside the house from my porch, parts were literally falling out of the box. UPS had propped it up against the house in such a way that the bottom was closed, most likely because they noticed the bottom was opening up. Amazingly, nothing was scratched or broken, and all parts were accounted for. Surely there must be a better way to ship these though. As other reviewers have stated, this is a major undertaking to put together if you don't have a lot of experience putting together furniture. This is mostly because of the changing table w/ drawers. You are literally putting together all of the drawers and supports. Once you have that part done, everything else pretty much goes into place. At times they make assumptions that you know what you're doing, and luckily a buddy of mine helped me put this together who did indeed know what he was doing. He could fill in the gaps when the directions were puzzling. Also, it's extremely heavy. 125lbs is a lot if you're just trying to get it off the porch. Once I had it in the door I opened the box and took all of the parts piece by piece up to the nursery. With both cribs there was NO ODOR. So if you're basing your purchasing decision on other reviews about odor, just know that I'm 2/2 getting a crib without odor. It must be an isolated issue. Perhaps if you get one too quickly from the factory it hasn't had time to air out? Also, no scratches after two years of use and abuse from a toddler on the Espresso model. Granted, our little guy never really did anything that would scratch it, and never chewed on the wood. I think it's an advantage that the front slopes outward, because it maybe helps prevent little ones from biting the edges. This is probably true for any crib, but when it's time to adjust the height of the mattress, be prepared for it to be a pain. The base of the mattress is a solid sheet of wood, so moving it up or down either requires two people or magic. It's better than the davinci I mentioned earlier though which had a metal/flimsy type of base, which is sagging from use. No such problem with the Stork Craft. One last note about the changing table. We have a toddler who quickly outgrew the length of the table. Attached tables like this can only be as deep as the crib itself, which can make it feel pretty small. Despite that, we still used it for a long time, his legs just hung over the edge. He didn't mind, and it wasn't a threat to his safety. Also, most third-party changing pads are too long. If you want a contoured, good luck. We were able to stuff the edges down into the gap in the changing table to make it work for a while, but eventually switched back to the factory pad. Despite the difficulty putting it together and the shipping issues, still 4/5 stars because these cribs have served us well and seem like they are going to last a long time. ... show more

  • Very solid, Not difficult to assemble
Color: White
Our little one hasn't made her appearance yet, but we're really excited about this crib. It's very heavy, so unless you can handle getting it inside by yourself make sure you have someone lined up to help you the day it's being delivered. I got mine inside the door then opened it there and carried all the various pieces upstairs, which wasn't too bad. It just meant it had to be done on the day it showed up. As far as assembly, it took me around 2.5 hours to do it by myself. My wife offered moral support but that was about the limit. The instructions weren't always the best. There are a lot of pre-drilled holes in the frame so that the crib can be converted to the daybed, toddler bed, and then to the headboard/foot-board of a full size bed, so it was sometimes confusing which hole out of 3 you were supposed to be putting the bolt through. At the end of the day, though, if you were assembling it correctly then it made it obvious what screw went where. Two assembly points. First, during the assembly of the shelves, at one point it says you need to lay the whole dresser part on its side. This wasn't necessary, I put all the pieces in with it standing upright with no problem. Because I had all the pieces sitting around it, there was no way I could have tipped it over. Second, if possible, assemble it in the center of the room then move it against the wall. There are some screws that go in the back of it that were really difficult to get in without good access to all four sides of the crib. Pros: Very Sturdy Nice clean finished look Nice size changing table (with pad included) Pre-drilled Cons: Not the best instructions Very heavy/hard to move Lots of extra pieces to store for when you want to convert the bed to its other forms ... show more

  • Babies can get limbs stuck in slats and changing table opening
Color: Pebble Gray
This is the most dangerous crib I've ever owned and it's only gotten worse as my baby has gotten older. We have had this crib for 2 years now and tonight was the 3rd time my child has gotten a limb stuck between the slats of this bed and/or the horizontal slat that opens to the changing table, to the point where it had to be broken to get them out. The drawers can be reached through the gaps once they have learned to stand and had to be removed so they couldn't slam their fingers in them. I never had this issue with my other child's crib and that was nearly 12 years ago, with a much older crib. My siblings didn't have this issue with their cribs either. The slats are too wide, the paint chips off easily, and the wood underneath the paint is rough and splinters. I wish I had never bought this thing. Never leave reviews either but this was too much. To be clear - child has been able to stand since 7 months, crib mattress was lowered according to the height and weight recommendations in the user manual as they grew, is on the very lowest setting, and one of the times they were in a sleep sack when they got stuck, all the way up to their thigh. ... show more
