I saw previous reviews saying that this item no longer supported higher resolutions - that is incorrect. I just purchased another one to test and it runs 1600x1200 @ 85hz. I currently do not have a high end 21" CRT monitor to test pixel clock rates beyond this at the moment. However it can accommodate the highest pixel clock rates that my 19" CRT monitors can accept, Windows also recognizes the monitor and properly labels it as its model number when using this device. Just make sure to connect and turn on the monitor before you boot your machine. I see no functional difference between this and a delock 87685 (costs 3x as much) with my 19" CRT monitors that run 1600x1200 @ 85hz. ... show more

    • Helpful but doesn’t support higher resolution and hertz
I received mine in December 2022 and was surprised that it does not actually support higher resolutions and therefore I am unable to max out my 19” CRT, NEC FP950 with the VGA cable output. Will have to look for other solution with the needed bandwidth.

This product still works for high refresh rate crt monitors, I am able to run my Dell P1130 at 1600x1200 85hrz without any issues would recommend for any crt enthusiasts.

Excellent DAC adapter for modern GPU to analog PC CRT monitor users. I use this adapter to display from my 3060 ti to my FW900 and it works great. Displays at 2560x1600 @ 60hz with no issues. Can also confirm that I was able to display a 1920x1200 @ 95hz resolution. I initially made the mistake of using the Nvidia Control Panel's custom resolution settings and had less than desirable results, so using Custom Resolution Utility (CRU) is a must! Only small downside is that the DisplayPort cable does not have latches to secure itself into you GPU. It would have been nice to have the option to use your own DisplayPort cable, but as long as you don't move it around too much, you should be fine. ... show more

I bought this device based on the reviews stating that high resolutions such as 1600x1200 @ 85Hz were supported, but unfortunately this is no longer the case. I contacted Startech support when I was having issues and the stated response was "This adapters VGA port supports 1920x1080 at 60Hz which is 3.73 Gbps bandwidth, running 1600x1200 85Hz requires 4.90 bandwidth. therefore this adapter will not able to get to that 85Hz at the 1600x1200." and when I asked about the previous reviews stating otherwise, I was told "there was some changes to this adapter in the March of this year." The fact that the model number was unchanged seemed kind of shady to me and I further pressed and was told "Yes, there is some internal changes but we never market it with that support of resolution, we have a lot of products that people uses in different ways which is not support by us officially, so if someone comes with that we won't be able to provide support." The product page did not mention going higher than 1080p and while that is correct, it still rubs me the wrong way that the product was silently updated and the reviews that I based my purchase on no longer apply. I will be hesitant to purchase Startech products in the future, knowing I can not trust the product page reviews or forum posts recommending the product to be accurate. ... show more

Works awesome - turns old PC CRT monitors back to their rightful throne. Great for games like Halo on PC or fighting games on Fightcade or Guilty Gear +R that are meant for 4:3

Good DAC for modern PC gaming on a VGA CRT monitor. Does 375MHz bandwidth so it can handle most high resolution/refresh rate combos. Edit 7/9/2022: One other review reports that a hardware change resulted in the performance of this adapter being downgraded. Just wanted to say I have now seen 3 other people buy these and report success with high resolution and refresh rates on CRTs. So take it with a grain of salt. Edit 2 8/29/2022: I went ahead and purchased another one of these units and tested it and it performs as expected. Still has the good IT6564FN chip. Do not listen to the negative reviewers, they are only parroting B. Seabolt's review. ... show more
