A few reviews said they are cheap.They are not cheap! Sperry has a newer high end “ gold cup”, maybe that’s what they were expecting? These are the plain Jane original boat shoe! They have improved with a newer material(EVA, I believe) for the heelcup! Makes them more comfortable! Other than that they’re just like the ones from the 70s and 80s I used to get all the time! I’ve worn for three weeks now. They are durable! No, stitching, coming undone ! Or rubber soles ripping! The real leather is stretching, and the shoe is becoming more and more comfortable with wear! I’m writing this review because I was hesitant on ordering these with the other bad reviews! The pair of” Sperry Men's Authentic Original Plushwave Boat Shoe” I receive have been fantastic! If you are thinking of purchasing a pair of Sperry Top Siders, you should go right ahead. The only thing is deciding where to purchase the Sperrys from. I purchased a pair of Sperries in 2020 from Amazon. Those were excellent - and I still wear them today. I purchased my next pair of Sperries in 2021 from Zappos - those were not so great. The soles feel different on the ones purchased on Zappos. So I decided to buy my third pair from Amazon again. They are just as advertised. They have the classic soles and the classic fit of the Sperries that I know and love. For reference, these are actually my 10th pair dating back over 10 years. If you need sizing guidance, I would go true to size. Especially if you have wide feet. If you want to wear Sperries with socks, definitely go true to size. I'm not a style snob - I just love wearing Sperries, even in the winter. Or sometimes I am running a quick errand, and I can pop into my Sperries with the socks I already have on. Plus true to size is a much more comfortable, breathable fit than going a half size down like some people might suggest. For me, a Sperry Top Sider is the ultimate comfort shoe. More than a running shoe, more than birks, more than slippers, more than sandals. I’ve been wearing these Sperry topsider model for over 40 years and they’ve always lasted 4 to 5 years same model - always a fantastic shoe. This one arrived last September and within a month or so the sole started to crack - I kind of ignored it kept it going and now there’s pieces breaking off and they’re useless. I have dozens of boats shoes and have tried almost every main brand there is. Also, I've own and tried just about every variation of boat shoe. The old school, leather lined boat shoes are the best. Sperry AO's are one of the few brands that make an old school leather lined boat shoe. You want the leather lined because it's more comfortable wearing bare foot and doesn't smell in the summer like pretty much all other linings do. These are legit Sperry AO's. Some may not think so, but they are. AO's use a little thinner leather and no longer use a solid rubber sole. Even so, they are ready to go (wear) right out of the box. They look great too - with shorts or pants. Even though these may not be made quite as well as the Sperry's of old, they're still better made than many other boat shoes. I'm a fan. ... show more

Star rating based on how they are when new. I really like the way they look and feel. I don't think there's much arch support but they're also not a pair of Air Jordan's. It's easy to forget that the good reputation of a name brand is often for a good reason. There are plenty of shoes that look basically the same as these, but the rubber sole on these is absolutely the best. They are smooth to look at but with a razor-cut gripping surface that makes them stick to a wet deck. Being smooth, they do not collect sand and track mud and dirt onto a boat or house and require effort to clean. I like that the soles are sewn into the leather uppers since I've had other shoes with glued soles come off. These are great. ... show more

I've been wearing Sperry boat shoes for over 25 years. About a year ago, I bought a new pair when my old shoes just wore out. Unfortunately, after a month, the sole of the new shoes separated. So I bought a competing brand with a rubber sole. My kitchen/ family room as hardwood floors and those shoes would stick to the floor and trip me, all the time. I almost broke my leg and neck a bunch of times. I went back to the Sperry's and they fit great and no problems tripping me up on my floors. Still the best. ... show more
