  • An American Abroad
Format: Kindle
This delightful novella by newcomer Alex Wilson recounts the summer adventure, and its unexpected consequences, of a bored unstimulated middle-aged professor's wife. Ripe with detail, as seen through the eye of an American woman, the English and Irish landscapes come alive while the inner emotional life of the protagonist is well-imagined. My curiosity as to how the relationship between the American and Irish women would evolve kept me reading - and my maternal instincts were well satisfied! An auspicious start - keep up the writing. ... show more

  • Southwest
Format: Kindle
Loved it, loved it, loved it! My passion for the UK stems from my second visit to London in 2007. It was magical and Maggie learned, as did I, people there are generous, caring, and down to earth. The story woven by author Alex Wilson is with compassion, knowledge of his subject and geographical location. The reading brought back pleasant memories of my weeks there as he mentions pubs, streets (look to the right!) and subway or tube stops. I could hear Caitlin's charming Irish brogue as she and Maggie spent time bonding. Maggie finally found a daughter! The book tells a lovely and realistic story with an unusual ending. I'll read it again! ... show more

  • promising new authors
Format: Kindle
Promising new authors that weave a lot of well researched Irish history into a satisfying story that takes place in the present day. It held my interest for the hour or so that it took to read and I look forward to reading additional selections from these same authors.

  • Beautifully Detailed Story
Format: Kindle
Southwest is a beautifully detailed story about a woman who travels to southwest England without her professor husband to rejuvenate her humdrum life. Alex Wilson captures Maggie's journey in such detail that you are certain he traveled every step of the way himself in this well-researched chronicle. And that is just the backdrop of his well-developed characters and story. The mystery (complete with a satisfying twist) is an added bonus. ... show more
