  • Well-constructed alloy bars. Bar-end shifters do fit.
Style: Silver
These are excellent handlebars with high quality construction and a very handsome sweep. I was looking for upright for bars that could take bar end shifters (>18-19mm inner diameter) and could take 22.2mm grips and brake levers. I was deciding between the Nitto Albatross (more expensive), the SunLite North Road (much less expensive, but made of steel, and less handsome construction), and these Soma Oxford bars (alloy, well made, less expensive than Nitto)--and I found them to be an excellent choice. The Soma Oxford handlebars do fit bar end shifters (see attached photo). The ends of the bars are drilled out (or fabricated) to have an expanded inner diameter of 19.70mm for a depth of about 38mm into the bar; after that the alloy is visibly thicker (see attached photo). Confirming the dimensions for these bars (measured with digital caliper): >Bar Clamp Diameter at center of bars: 25.4mm >Outer Diameter at grips/brake levers: 22.2mm >Inner Diameter at bar ends: 19.70mm Rough overall dimensions: >Width (side edge to edge): ~22"/550mm >Depth (front edge to back edge): ~9"/220mm >Depth (center of bar clamp to tip of hand rest): ~7.5"/190mm >Rise (bottom edge to top edge): ~2.5/64mm The bars have the words "Soma Oxford" printed in black on both sides of the bar clamp right in front. ... show more

Excellent quality, but returned for dimensions. Too big for my wife's shoulder width.

  • High quality and comfortable handlebar.
Style: Silver
I’ve had this bar on a vintage bike I restored and upgraded with modern parts for a year or so. My wife loves the hand position and polished finish.

  • A perfect bar for my comfort and injured shoulders...
Style: Silver
Long time rider... but now I cannot tolerate traditional road bars, MTB bars or even many swept back handlebars. This bar has been great and now have it on a Plus-tired Adventure Bike (with Ergon GC-1 grips which I use for both MTB trails and Gravel excursions) and a "road racing bike" (Old '92 Serotta with Ergon GA-3 grips). Lots of hand position options if you use the whole bar up to and including the forward loop area (which are both taped and padded on my bar installations). This bar won't be for everyone but for me it was a problem solver and I no longer have any shoulder pain during or after a ride (rides as long as 100 miles). Couldn't be happier with Soma as a brand and these bars in particular. ... show more

  • Comfortable and nicely finished
This is basically a knock off of the Nitto Albatross bar, for about half the price. The only downside I can see to this (compared to the Alba) is that it's 1cm narrower. I like wider bars, but for $35 or so, I can give up one cm. The finish is beautiful, and it makes a really nice townie bar. I really like being able to run bar end shifters on this--it frees up the front bends to offer and additional hand position. I'm running this on my Surly Cross Check, which I've always found too long and low to be comfortable with drops. With this bar, I need to run quite a long stem (120mm) to get comfortable, but it works there. You can see pics of my setup here: [...] ... show more

  • Promotes upright posture while maintaining steerability
Style: Silver
My Swedish e-bike came with the wide handlebars that are shown without grips installed in Pic 1. They forced a forward posture that caused this plus-60 woman pain in lower back pain and between shoulder blades. Local bike store installed the completely flat, swept-back cruiser handlebars that are shown with grips in Pic 1. These alleviated the pain, but made it easy to oversteer with just a slight movement, especially for someone with balance issues. Pic 2 shows Soma handlebars (with grips) compared to original, wide handlebars. Just the compromise that was needed! ... show more
