I watched the magic a tone bell works in my children’s Montessori style MDO & had to get one to try at home! Light enough to carry around & swell sound. Stick does not slide into wood part though, if that’s a must for you.

    • Plastic baton made the pitch too high; replace with wood, and it's better
I bought this to replace a previous one that disappeared. The old one had a very rich, long lasting tone, and came with a wooden (baton? mallet?). This one came with a plastic striking device, with the result that the pitch was higher and didn't last as long. If you can find a wooden striker, I suggest using that. Or you may prefer a higher pitch in which case this will be great! This item is good to bring a moment of calm in a hectic day - strike it and listen until the sound finally ends. It's very calming. A lot of teachers have different ways of getting the class’s attention to quiet down. As a sub, I’m always walking us to new rooms and I don’t know what the kids are accustomed to. I got this because I feel like the sound of a chime is a universal thing to get attention so it works.

    • There are better ones out there
I got this to bring Zoom classes to order and announce the start of recording. I started by using a small singing bowl I already had, which has a beautiful sound, and students loved it, but I wanted something that took up less space on my desk. A colleague had a great one that looks just like this one, and after borrowing it, I decided to get one. I didn't note their brand or model, just went on Amazon and looked for one like it. I should have asked. This one has a tone that is high, sharp and brassy - it definitely gets your attention, but it's irritating. Not a pleasing or calming sound, definitely. Also, the picture shows the black plastic striker being stored neatly tucked into the space beneath the chime, so that it stays put. On mine, it won't fit, so I can't store it that way and ensure that they stay together. It's not horrible. It's usable, and for this price, it's not worth returning, so I'll use it. I just wish I'd shopped around a bit more and wound up with one I liked better. Posting this review as a suggestion that others may want to do that. ... show more
