    • Terrible Customer Service for Defective Goggles

I will start by saying that the goggles themselves are fine and work well aside from the strap being too short. I have a pretty small head for a woman and wear a size small helmet, however, the strap on these goggles is so short that they left marks on my face and caused swelling under my eyes after wearing them for a few hours. My biggest complaint, however, is Smith's terrible customer service. I, like many others, received a pair of goggles with a "sticky" band. Basically, the silicone grip strip was incredibly tacky and glue-like. After taking my goggles off I realized that they had left sticky goo all over my helmet. Since I was away on a ski trip, there wasn't much I could do but try to wipe it off with a towel which only smeared it around and created a big mess. After I got home, it took me the better part of half an hour to clean the gooey substance off my helmet with Goo Gone. I submitted a warranty claim since the grip strip was clearly defective. After a couple of days I received a response from Smtih saying that my claim had been approved and that they would send me a $50 voucher to be used on the Smith website if I destroyed my goggles by scratching an X into the lenses and cutting the strap and then sending them a photo. The problem with this solution is that the voucher didn't cover the full cost of the replacement goggles ($55), nor did it cover their exorbitant shipping cost ($15 for standard shipping). So I had to pay $20 for them to replace defective goggles. Why not just send me a replacement? Or at least send a voucher that would also cover tax and shipping? An apology for shipping a defective product would have been appreciated as well. I will never buy from Smith again. ... show more
