Description

Featuring large apertures and easy functionality, Sky-Watcher’s Heritage 130 Dobsonian takes a classic design and shrinks it for easy table-top use! This kit comes with everything you need to get started viewing the night sky including eyepieces and a red dot finder. Developed in the 1970s, the name ‘Dobsonian’ comes from the telescope’s inventor, John Dobson, a Vedantan monk and sidewalk astronomer who dedicated his life to astronomy outreach. Dobson was notorious for constructing large aperture reflecting telescopes capable of deep sky viewing, using low cost materials. These were often made with found materials, heavy cardboard tubes, recycled porthole glass and plywood mounts. Dobson encouraged other astronomers to assemble their own telescopes and taught workshops on telescope making. Sky-Watcher carries on the legacy Dobson left behind with this Heritage Dobsonian telescope. Don’t let this simple design fool you! Dobsonian-style telescopes utilize their large aperture to give users bright, vivid detail. Using borosilicate mirrors coated with aluminum and quartz, both primary and secondary mirrors deliver 94% reflectivity. With a finely-crafted parabolic primary mirror and coatings this bright, you’ll be viewing just as John Dobson intended.

  • Great experience out of the box
I'm pleased with the initial experience with this scope. It arrived well boxed, and nearly fully assembled (only the red-dot finder needed to be added, which is two phillips screws. Easy.) Initial setup and aiming the red-dot worked well. The scope and base are sturdy and seemed appropriate for adults and supervised children. I can't wait for the temperature to rise a little and the wind to stop blowing so I can begin real viewing. ... show more

  • Too bulky for a travel telescope too weak for a fixated telescope, terrible costumer support
I was going to buy this telescope for traveling, I liked the idea of being foldable but the heavy wood base makes it completely impractical for travel. You'd need to replace it with a light aluminum stand but at that cost you may as well get a different telescope. The telescope is weak, there are telescopic lenses out there for generic cameras that could get the same result. No accessories included to support cameras or smartphones, and no official accessories sold that would guarantee compatibility. Costumer service is useless. They just give me 3rd party phone numbers to fix any kind of issues from bank transfers problems to compatible accessories or guide how to disassemble the base. Ignorant and rude. ... show more

  • Recommend
I have been using it for more than an year. This is a great telescope if you are getting started and know nothing about astronomy. I found it super helpful and fun. This is great if you want to take pretty pretty pictures of Moon! I have been able to see the redness of mars and Jupyter along with three of her moons with this. It's like a childhood dream come true. I highly recommend this to beginner. One thing which i found at later is, you cannot use solar filters film with this one, so we cannot watch the sun! ... show more

  • First telescope ever and i love it!
Trying to find some new hobbies and stumbled upon this telescope. After reading blogs and watching youtube videos on telescope types and functions, i decided on this one (pictures shown are with my iPhone placed over the lens, no special tools). I'm having a blast with it, looked at the moon and some stars (pictures of stars are hard via iphone). The laser siting works good for the quality. People complaining about the travel size is confusing, going up in telescope quality + increasing travel accessibility = makes zero sense. point of diminishing your return. The partial moon pictures are when i went to my fishing spot and used the telescope there, just put it in my back seat with the belt buckle and your are all set. My last note i want to make is if you live within a city this isn't the telescope for you, this type of telescope as a whole isn't great for city's and bright lighted areas. (Edit) 10/28/2023 - I ordered the celestron 8mm-24mm eyepiece, having one eye piece with different zoom levels is very convenient and just gives more depth to using your telescope and having fun. No problem at all with the eyepieces that come with the telescope. This is just too good of an upgrade to not pick up sooner then later. If i want to purchase a bigger telescope later on i can still use the eye piece. People with $3,000+ setups use this eyepiece. ... show more
