The top of the box was open and the top of one of the flanges was bent. Was able to straighten it out with pliers. If I wasn't in need of it right now I would have sent it back. Seems to be a common problem. But did work out perfectly..

After months of use, these pipes have held up perfectly. The interior pipes have very little buildup of creosalt. They were painted with a spray paint for high temperatures nearest the wood stove and exterior with regular spray paint (not recommended). None of this has faded or burned off.
