  • Fun game that rewards strategy while maintaining a party game element
TLDR: This is a great game concept that was well produced and thought out. It is a game that rewards strategy with color choice and potential setups for large point turns while keeping a somewhat replayable format with random starting tiles. - The package I received included the game box. This game includes 48 tiles (24 pairs), a rule book, a scoring card deck, and 2 half-pencils for the scoring cards. Everything fits inside of the game box and is easy to put back after playing. - The game tiles are very colorful and very well printed/manufactured. - The rules are relatively simple and easy for children and teens to understand within a couple turns (with some exceptions involving corner connections that don't involve point worth but prevent piece placement regardless) - The aim of the game is to get points by connecting colored pieces with corresponding existing game pieces. All pieces that are part of the connection count towards your point value for that turn. Depending on how good your table is and if there is someone specifically trying to lower point totals for the whole table (The game is somewhat griefable and may cause you to rethink friendships with some spiteful people...), these turns can average from 2-7 points per turn to 15-25 points per turn. - Everyone that I played with talked about how the creation of cool colorful art was an awesome addition, and I have to agree, the finished boards look cool and inspire a sense of pride knowing that you contributed to it. - The timing for the game ranges a lot, depending on number of people and how serious everyone takes their turns. It could average on 30 minutes, but if you are just starting and have more than 2 people, expect 35+ minutes. - I highly recommend if you want a somewhat strategic and simple concept game. ... show more

  • Simple, clever, fun, though limited in depth - a good gateway strategy game for kids
Overall, I'm pretty impressed with this game for what it is. It is pretty simple in overall concept and really easy to learn, with just enough strategic planning to make it a decent gateway strategy game. It doesn't have a significant amount of depth, but this does make sense considering this is targeted at younger players. The idea is that everyone takes turns connecting tiles in the center of the table, with the touching sides and corners needing to match colors exactly. Aside from the first tile, which automatically earns five points, all points are scored by counting the number of connected tiles in each color grouping. I'm not going to try to explain this in depth here, but you can see the instructions in the photos. What this simple concept does is make for some mildly strategic planning to try and gain as much points as possible in one turn, by taking advantage of existing color groupings. The product description emphasizes the game's focus on spatial reasoning, planning, and counting, and I think that sums it up quite well. You have to consider which tiles you have and where and when they might best be placed. All players have all their available tiles showing at all times, so it is possible (though not entirely necessary) to consider what moves your competitors might be making as well. There's not really anything more to it than that, but it is still surprisingly satisfying for having such a limited scope. And though tile-laying games are abundant, I've never specifically seen this exact type of scoring mechanic, which does make it stand out. I played this game with my eight- and nine-year old nieces as well as with my mother. The opinions were a bit mixed among this group. The youngest for some reason did not seem to like it at all, though it was not completely clear why. The nine-year old seemed to like it at first and was pretty good at it, but as the game dragged on, she seemed to lose patience. It is entirely possible both of them were a little too tired. Both my mother and I really appreciated it for what it was, though. I also felt my brother would like the overall concept, even if it is a bit simple. Even though this is designed for kids, it very well could possibly work is a quick and easy casual play option for adults. The production quality is fine overall, but a little on the amateurish side when you consider the impressive levels of design a lot of current tabletop games are offering these days. I guess with a simple concept like this based on color tiles, there is only so much you can do anyways. Ultimately, I can definitely recommend this as a lightweight strategy game option. It is marketed as a STEM game for kids and even though the two young girls I played with didn't get into it quite as much as I hoped, it still seems like an excellent concept to play with children. Considering all the mindless and luck-based game options for kids out there, I'd say this is definitely worthwhile. ... show more

  • Fun, different, and quick.
We’re a game-loving family, and this one caught my eye as a simple, kid-friendly addition to our collection. The concept is easy to grasp, especially for younger players—it's centered around matching colors, which makes it accessible for kids around age 6–8. Where things get trickier is in the scoring. Although gameplay itself is straightforward, the scoring system requires keeping track of a large number of small points along the way. That means an adult or older child who’s comfortable with tallying scores—using hash marks or quick mental math—is pretty much necessary to keep things running smoothly. Despite that, the game has some great benefits. It encourages spatial awareness and puzzle-solving skills, and I liked seeing how my 7-year-old independently used the cards just to match and experiment on his own. It works well with 2–3 players and held my child’s attention through multiple rounds. While this might not be a permanent staple in our game rotation, I’m glad we had the chance to try it. It's a fun, engaging option for families looking for light strategy games that also sneak in a bit of learning. ... show more

  • Fun strategy game for the family
We play a lot of games but most are too complex for our four year old. This was a lot of fun for all of us! We played without keeping score and just focused on teaching our four year old how to match the patterns. He absolutely loved it. Once he’s older we will be able to implement scoring so it’s a little more complex and strategic, but for now it’s been a. Excellent way to help our little one be part of family game nights with something he actually enjoys. Definitely recommend for gaming fans/families. ... show more

  • Fun, Easy to Learn
Very easy to learn, which is always a plus for us. It a fun mix of trying to get points and trying to stop others from getting points. We played with two adults, a teenager and a tween. Our tween won. We have quite a few SimplyFun games, and we like them all. The tiles for this are good quality. It's always good to have a game that's easy to teach to others and to learn the rules in general. This is one of those! I look at reviews a lot while shopping. I hope this review helps! ... show more
