Literally never thought I'd be writing a review for tape, but well.... here I am. If you have an easily scared baby/toddler, this is the tape for you. We're in the middle of moving/packing, and almost every time I taped a box shut with my old tape, my anxious little dude would just about lose it. Or altogether lose it. Mostly that one. This tape, is straight up MAGICAL. It's so quiet, and does not set off my angsty toddler. I didn't know they MADE quiet packing tape. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you for creating this. I use this tape often. Great for mailing and packing. Durable and strong. Doesn't tear off diagonally on the roll like some tapes will.

3M products (typically assembled in the US with "globally sourced components") are premium products that sell at much higher prices than knock-offs & imitators. So is the higher price worth it ? Size: standard 1.88" wide (1 7/8"). 54 yards long, so you should compare to other rolls that can range from 45 to 60 yards. Thickness of tape - not specified by 3M, but described as "shipping and packing". By feel, it's in the 2-3mil range, thicker than the thinnest 1.1mil and doesn't feel as thick as the heavier 3+ mil. Sure Start & Quiet - yes, if you can grab a edge and pull, the tape WON'T split and makes no sound when rolling out. By my observation, 3M coated the tape with a non-stick chemical (maybe Teflon-like) so the glue/adhesive of the tape cannot bind to the non-glue surface of the tape; it seems to have the same effect as taping wax paper as tape adhesive cannot tack on to wax. The drawback of this Sure Start & Quiet is that it is more difficult if not impossible to "double tape" in case you need more strength than the medium strength of this 2-3mil tape. For single layer taping, it is worth the premium price at about $3 per roll, compared to the "Made in China" alternatives. The "Duck" brand tape is made in Taiwan which tends to avoid the low-end value chain in manufacturing.

Everyone who packs boxes with a tape gun knows that SCREEEEEECH sound while pulling packing tape.. this tape is virtually silent coming off the roll. It seems to be finicky about which boxes it will cling to. If your cardboard has furry fuzzy kind of face do not use this tape as it will sometimes just fall off. HOWEVER... if you run tape all the way around the box landing the tape over itself, it is very strong at holding. I typically pack moving boxes with one strip over the lid seam to start then rotate the box and do two strips across the lids at about 3rds, then around the edge of the lids around the whole box over lapping those pieces of tape and onto itself. This method has never failed me on any move. We loved this tape while packing to move because it was so quiet. I was actually able to do packing late at night or early in the morning while my girlfriend was sleeping, only noise I would make was when I would bang my toe in the dark LOL. Just be careful when starting to unroll the tape, don't just hold the end of the tape because it separates from itself so easily on the roll, your entire roll will drop to the floor and you stand there looking stupid holding 4.5 feet of tape that you didn't mean to waste ;-)

I've been burned by poor quality tape during a previous move. Now I only use 3M. The name brand is worth it.

I sell things at an online auction site. I used this tape to box up items. I have tried other brands and other types of Scotch brand shipping tapes, but this is my go to for taping up items to ship out. I tend to box up several small boxes at a time, so the easy start is great for the start/stop taping needed to box up small boxes. Also, the easy start makes it quieter when taping, so taping many boxes does not disturb TV watching in the next room :) The tape adheres as well as any other tape I've tried.

DO NOT waste your money on other off brands. They are loud, obnoxious, thin, rip and overall a waste of time. Scotch is the BEST quality; they roll from a tape gun QUIETLY (I know, that's weird - but trust me, use some cheap loud tape and you'll realize the value in the quiet nature of these!), they are sturdy, stick well and don't get all muddled up like some of the others. I will only and forever buy Scotch! This is a great value pack!

I think this is good tape, however, I have had problems with the tape occasionally unsticking. I use this tape for shipping out shoes and I have had a small number of issues with the tape removing from the box. Overall good tape though and I like how quiet it is.
