Scarlet Darkness wins with yet another great pattern and functional corset that is perfect for Renaissance festivals, costume parties, cosplay, or if you just love a good bodice and want to wear it any time. How you choose your size is up to you. In my opinion they run true to size and when sizing a working corset, as a rule you want to go with measurement you’d like to train down to. The boning in these bodices are sturdy and they work well for tight lacing so I go to smaller end of my size. With lacing in the front and the back, as well as a back panel of the fabric, you can lace the front completely shut and lace the back as you like. If you like tight lacing, I happen to lace. Mine fully closed and they do exactly the job that any expensive waist trainer would do. Or you have the freedom (with that fabric panel as a cover) to lace much more loosely if that’s your preference. This is my reason for sizing down a bit. I can wear it loosely laced if I want to but if I want a corset effect I can tight lace it closed. The material is very nice, although it might not be something that would be truly accessible in the renaissance, at my last RenFest I saw employees and even vendors wearing pieces that I recognized as scarlet darkness. The price seems high but when you are looking at RenFest bodices that don’t do what these corsets can do, you’ll find that you’ll still pay more. The material is nice and soft against the skin if you choose to wear it as a top or in the areas that an under chemise doesn’t cover. It’s smooth and doesn’t cause any uncomfortable rubbing. It’s built to be sturdy so I can’t say that it’s a breathable item but doesn’t cover much area so it’s easy to stay fairly cool. It can certainly be worn as a corset top with jeans for a sexy fun look, with a long ball gown type skirt for a formal event, it would still be beautiful, but I get mine specifically for RenFest or you could call it cosplay if you like. There are really only two areas with this and other scarlet darkness corsets that leave me with any concern. Aside from wishing that that they were longer… perhaps they will come out with a longer version at some point… my concerns are; 1) there is a partial zipper on the side. The zipper confounds me. I feel that it servers no purpose and that it detracts from an otherwise very well done Renaissance piece. When the corset laces fully from the front or from the back, there is no need for a zipper. If it’s functional at all it would have to be for someone who is wearing it VERY loosely laced and in exactly their size or maybe a size up. My guess would be that so many people might say that they run small because when you see a zipper on a garment you expect that to be the way to get in and out of it. This just isn’t reasonable for any bodice or corset in my experience. The zipper is also pretty delicate to make it less visible. I have a large chest and trying to use the zipper was a total fail. Besides that, as I mentioned that I feel that the entire point of structure and boning in a corset is for at least a degree of tight lacing. Which is done by…. Lacing. I would love to see the zippers entirely eliminated. 2) the laces aren’t actually laces. I haven’t had a problem with this yet, not even tight lacing. But it’s very basic ribbon rather than corset laces or a sturdier type ribbon. At some point, if anything here fails it will be the ribbons not staying laced or starting to fray or some mishap with the zipper because of the pull on the fabric. However, that being said I own several of their pieces and other a shoulder ribbon that one day didn’t want to stay tied, I’ve had really zero complaints and gotten tons of compliments on the looks I’ve put together using scarlet darkness pieces. With this particular pattern, I loved the new colors and that they coordinate with so well some of the new chemise dress and shirt pieces as well as the skirts. Tons of options as far as what you can do with it color wise. I typically do a fairy or an elf, so I’m loving all of the new color and that this one bodice could be used for several. ... show more

Sizing is accurate. Super cute corset. Very comfortable, and love that is has a zipper on the side for easier access. Bought it to go to the renaissance fair. Tempted to try to wear this as an every day piece though. My bra size is 34 DDD. 5"7" 165 lbs. I got the size 10.

Size and look are as expected and materials seem to be solid. My only complaint is that the laces came all cattywampus, and I had to remove them all and restring it. Other than that, it feels like quality and wears well.

I am just getting into ren faires and stuff but have always loved cottage core styles but nothing in that style ever fits right or looks good cause I’ve got a large bust (between DD-DDD). I love this thing more than life itself. I’m a little bit chunkier than I’d like to be and it often makes me feel a bit self conscious and I have a really hard time finding clothes I feel s3xy in. This bodice makes me feel so beautiful and s3xy. My boyfriend agrees lol. I have a feeling that if I’m ever feeling self conscious I’m just gonna lace myself up and feel like a baddie and go on my merry way. Here’s all the details: I have a 42 inch bust at the last measurement and got a size 16 which was absolutely perfect! The zipper seems to work well but I kind of don’t prefer to use it (ik it’s a pain in the butt but I like the process of lacing it up (also it allows me to lace it tighter than I’d be able to if I were just relying on the strength of the zipper to squeeze me in). I haven’t seen any rips or anything and I’ve laced it pretty tight, but I haven’t used it for long so I’m not sure of long term use. I feel like this is even more comfortable than a bra in some ways (I hate underwire but like the lifting effect and have always liked “long line” bralettes). The boning is comfortable and flexible enough to conform to my body yet stiff enough to hold me in. I absolutely love this bodice! If I wore bodices every day, I’d definitely buy more. The fit is great, you can loosen the ribbon, zip it up, and then tighten it on your own, which is super convenient if you don’t have anyone to help lace the back. The boning hits in the right place and makes it very flattering. Zipper is placed on the side and can’t be seen. The straps have two holes for adjustment. I use the shortest setting, it’s a little loose, but not a big deal. You can also wear a regular bra underneath, which is really nice. It looked amazing with the matching skirt from the same brand. The detail is stunning, the colors are beautiful, and the structure is perfect, it even helps with posture. Highly recommend ... show more
