  • Good but narrow
Size: 7 Color: Grape Leaf/Peat/Shadow
Have been buying Salomon trail shoes for a few years now for my dirt/offroad walks and jogs they really grip around your ankles which is needed due to many spines over the years. This was the first time I went a level up from the Speedcross to the XA Pro 3d V8's. Going from a more neutral/stability to a full Stability shoe was awesome my feet/ankle felt more held in on my first go on my home trail, but after 10 mins of mild walking a started to feel a blister rub which I never felt in the Speedcross. After getting home and comparing the 2 shoes I noticed that the Speedcross had a wider center cross section, while the V8 seem a lot more rugged/harder feel and yes the SpeedCross was broken in vs brand new. So I went to research a bit online and talk to my REI store come the find out Speedcross was more for softdirt/mud and V8 was more for rocky areas which in toll needed better grip in the center. So if you like me have a semi wide feet get the V8 in your size but in a wide. ... show more

  • Good fit but tread is slippery on wet ground.
Size: 9 Color: Grape Leaf/Peat/Shadow
I like the fit and they were great out of the box. But I noticed they slide easily on wet surfaces like concrete and mud. The shoes are not a very good choice for wet weather.

  • Great shoes
Size: 10.5 Color: Grape Leaf/Peat/Shadow
Great shoes comfortable out of the box, feet feels stable and safe, they look long and narrow but they are comfortable.

  • After 1 year, Externally tough, internally...
I love these shoes. My second pair that I wear daily. The outside never seams to show wear, but after one year, the inside heel completely wears out. Every other shoe I've owned, the outside wears it before the inside. Not quite sure if this is a complaint or just an observation.

  • The new version of the Salomon XA PRO 3D
I very much enjoy wearing Salomons and have had them for years. I recently purchased the updated version of the XA PRO 3D. There have been some mixed reviews and I can see their perspective. Compared to the previous versions, this one seems to be manufactured more "simply" and thus may not feel as "solid" as previous models. Nevertheless, the shoe feels comfortable, the shoe bed is solid, and the support is outstanding. It is difficult to judge durability as this is a new item. In the past (and this has been confirmed by other reviews), it is usually the profile of the sole of the shoe that wears out first. Taken together, the XA PRO 3D is a solid choice for a running and hiking shoe. ... show more

  • Runs a little wider than other Salomons
Size: 7.5 Color: Grape Leaf/Peat/Shadow
Was looking for a replacement for my Salomon Sense Ride shoes (sz 7.5). Thought I'd try these, as they seemed to be more durable for trails. From a fit perspective, they are a bit wider, mostly in the toe box, than the Sense Rides in the same size. The Sense Rides are nice in that they fit like a sock. These XA Pro's don't fit like a sock. Even though they still have a ContraGrip sole, the durometer feels higher, i.e. not as soft, as other Salomons. Will see how they hold up after a week on some AZ trails. Imagine the sole will hold up better than my Sense Rides. ... show more

  • Worth every penny
I've had 5 or 6 pairs of Xa Pros over the last few years and keep coming back. I use these on trails and sidewalks daily for a 2 mile walk in the morning, and a 2-3 mile walk/run/hike later in the day (my goldendoodle keeps me going!). I get hundreds of miles in each pair before I need to replace due to tread wearing down. Very comfortable and breathable. I have a new pair on the way, but did notice the last pair (bought April '20) had some quality issues that I hope have been resolved. Including the inner ankle mesh and padding wearing away all the way down to the plastic support, and the stitching on the tongue fraying off. Neither of these happened on previous pairs, but again, I get quite a bit of mileage out of them and these issues may not appear with more casual use. I've also had a couple pairs of Adidas trail shoes with a similar lacing system over the last few years. That was their weakest point, and in both pairs they were left useless after the pinching mechanism failed. I have not had any problems with the lacing system with Salomon even after heavy use. ... show more
