Description

The Spartacus HD Tire Carrier System provides the ultimate in strength and stability for mounting your oversized wheel and tire. Functionally designed to manage the amplified force and vibrations produced during extreme off-road conditions. The precision die-cast aluminum Hinge Casting provides maximum strength without the excess weight of steel. The one-piece design maintains one-handed access to cargo area and rigidly links the Wheel Mount to the reinforced section of the rear quarter panel. This, in combination with forged steel hinge brackets and hardened steel pins, results in far superior load capacity than the factory tailgate hinges, thereby effectively reducing wear and increasing longevity. The Wheel Mount lifts the mounting position and incorporates depth and tilt adjustability for large diameter and wide tire options. Tested to MIL-STD-810 to simulate extended duration of vigorous off- road driving conditions. Rated for up to and including 37" wheel tire combinations. Includes adjustable third brake light bracket. Took me about 2 1/4 hours to install, plus another 1/2 hour to add extra wire extension for rear brake light and adjust the height of the light. No problem with parts fitting together. When it came time to install the four bolts between the edge of the hinge and the tire carrier I was flabbergasted to look into the bolt hole and see that the hole in the hinge was NOT aligned with the threads in the door. However, I was greatly relieved when I went ahead and tried to put the bolt in, and found that the threads in the door are on a plate (top two on one plate, bottom two on another) that kinda wiggled. Turned out there was no problem getting the bolt into the threads. At the points where the instructions said to completely tighten each bolt, I tightened them enough to stay in place, but not fully. Then, when it was all done, I removed the bolts that went into the jeep (only two at a time - very important!), applied red thread lock, and then tightened them fully. I used red thread lock because I don't believe I'll ever take this off. If that concerns you, use blue. I should note that I am very good at reading and interpreting instructions, though there wasn't much to interpret. The only part was jumping from the hinge instructions to the tire carrier instructions. If installing both, there are steps in the tire carrier instructions that you need to skip. The hinge kit and tire carrier come in their own boxes, and each have a pair of spacers to put behind the tire carrier. You will use only one pair. After it was installed, I ran the wire for the brake light behind the tire carrier (because I'd cut the plug off to add the included wire, this could be done). Then I put a piece of wire across the brake light extension just to keep the wire from rubbing on the tire. (I would have preferred a bolt, but didn't have one long enough.) See pictures. Haven't had a chance to take it on the road yet, but it appears very sturdy and certainly much stronger than the original hinges and tire carrier. ... show more

I couldn't see spending an extra $200 for the Terraflex mount and hinge, so I got this and the savings was essentially a free spare tire. I went with the Xprite brake light that mounts inside the spare. I'm in a 2016 JKU with 35" tires and 16" Cepek DC2 wheels. Each wheel tire weighs about 115lbs. For those complaining about the thumping, you have to take care when you install the hinge. There are three tightening phases I used. The initial when you wedge and first attach. The second when you swing it to the open position (maybe 20 degrees), lift wedge and tighten it again. And the third when you install the spare and lift wedge AGAIN. That should get it flush and tight. So far I haven't had any issues. I've had mine for only a week, but what I did was test on a parking lot curbs and speed bumps at different speeds and angles to test the twist with drops/climbs, and straight on with hard drops/climbs. Height adjustment would be nice I'll report back in a few months to give an update. So far, I think this is a GREAT HD mount and hinge kit with an easy install. ... show more

I have 285/75r18 tires and had purchased a temporary fix type product to use until I found the right reinforcement kit. After a few weeks the temporary fix was so shaky when driving and just moved around too much (even after making sure everything was tight). It made me so nervous to drive and only able to take my Jeep out 4x4 twice because I was nervous. I found this reinforcement kit and saw all the great reviews, originally found it on a different website and it cost $600+ for the entire kit! What?! So I came on here and found it for this incredible price! It came with all the pieces, screws, bolts and easy to understand directions! My dad and I hooked it up in just a few hours, for once we weren’t running to ace hardware every few steps! It’s so sturdy and no more clunking noises! I feel so much better when I drive.     • Tough to open but does the job
I installed this about 3 months ago. Installation was relatively straightforward. I had my 17 yo son do most of the install since I want him to learn to wrench on cars. I read the instructions and watched some YouTube videos so we didn't have any problems. My 2016 JKUR has 35" Nitto Terra Grappler tires and Armory wheels. They are heavy. I had them on the stock tire carrier with an extension. I was concerned the tailgate might sag over time especially when bouncing over rough trails. This product was bought to reinforce the hinge. It does the job but the hinge is tight and the tailgate is harder to open now. I saturated the hinge with lithium white grease but no help. My wife can't open it but most other people can. The 3rd brake light extension barely clears my 35" tires. It needs to be another inch or two higher. The tire holder needs a 1/2" or larger hole in the center. I mount my back-up camera in the center of the spare wheel hub and run the cables through the center of the hub to the wiring harness in the tailgate. I can't do that with this carrier since there is no hole. I thought about drilling my own hole but drilling a 1/2" dia hole though a piece of steel this thick would be a real chore. Also, I didn't have a 1/2" cobalt drill bit. I am designing an extension for the 3rd brake light and the back-up camera. I will 3D print it. I want a better quality back-up camera anyway. ... show more
