  • Boots run large!
Color: Black Size: 10
I purchased a size 10 seeing that lots of people said they run large. I wear an 11 all day every day. Redwing work boots, any name brand shoe etc. 10's were to big. I ended up with a 9 and was still able to put in a nice gel insole. They are especially large in the toe box area. I took these on a trip to Canada and spent 7 days in a canoe and camping. The drain holes work great, they are light weight and dry out well. They never dried out all the way during the trip but in all fairness they didn't have much time. Maybe 8 hours overnight outside in the 50's. Getting to and from camp required being in the water and or nasty knee to waist deep mud. The grip of the sole was great on the rocks and multiple types of ground cover. Slippery on tree roots that were wet but otherwise i was impressed. Caring an 86 lb. canoe on your shoulders for half a mile soaking wet good footing in important. Defiantly a good purchase! Just go 2 sizes below what you normally use. The Insole i just used for comfort, the bottom of the boots is quite hard. ... show more

  • Cracked on first use
Color: Black Size: 4
I bought these for my daughters in Civil Air Patrol. I'M SO PROUD OF THEM. Yes, Momma wore combat boots too. The finish on these cracked upon first use. Oldest was breaking them in at her job when the finish across the vamp started cracking. Now note here that oldest is ALSO in ROTC at high school. So if there's a kid who already knows how to shine boots, this is the kid. These boots were NOT GONNA CUT IT on polishing this finish back to passing inspection level. THREE CHEERS FOR ALL WHO WEAR COMBAT BOOTS! Don't wear these. ... show more

  • Glue coming off?
Color: Olive Drab Size: 5
I believe it’s the same general design as Vietnam era jungle boots, but I don’t think it’s made the same way. I’ve been breaking them in by soaking them in water and walking in them about 30 minutes a day for the past 2 weeks. They’re getting pretty comfortable. But I’m noticing a sticky white ooze coming from the sole (no liner). I’ve put insoles for arch support. When I pull them out, they’ve got a gluey mess on the underside. I hope this doesn’t mean that the shoe is slowly getting unglued and coming apart. I got these for the treads since I’m planning to do some jungle hiking in semi-rainy season. Will update. ... show more

  • Vulcanized is much better, but more expensive
Color: Desert Tan Size: 11
This is a Chinese copy of the USGI jungle boot. I have had a pair of the black Altama USGI boots for over 20 years, and the USGI jungle boots are tough as nails. These are just tan instead of black or green and black. These are not “rough out.” The finish is smooth. I do believe the upper is real, albeit inexpensive, leather. The stitching appears to be acceptable quality. Each boot has two drainage ports that are probably aluminum or plastic instead of brass. I am 99.999% certain the sole is glued on instead of the vulcanized sole the USGI boots have. Vulcanized is much better, but more expensive. The sole itself is softer than the USGI issue jungle boot. That could be a feature or a bug, depending upon the terrain you’re walking. The harder USGI soles slip a lot on smooth wet rocks. You will absolutely need a set of aftermarket insoles. The factory insole is hard as a rock. They feel a little wide. If you have narrow feet, you might be disappointed. They also feel like they run a little large. All in all, these seem to be a basic, serviceable pair of boots. You will never mistake them for USGI quality. And I doubt I will get 20 years of service out of them. But the real deal Altama USGI jungle boots, when you can find them these days, cost about three times as much. ... show more

  • GREAT boots!
Color: Olive Drab Size: 10
I love these boots. Yes, like other reviewers say, they arrive very smelly and hard, but after airing them outside in a shed for a few weeks, the oily smell dissipates. Then after working in them, your feet harden and the boots soften. I work on very hot and abrasive asphalt roofs that melt the soles off sneakers and tear the sides, but these boots hold up very well under such brutal conditions. And because they have the canvas tops, they are flexible allowing much movement for strenuous work on uneven surfaces. And the soft rubber sole, while prone to leaving scuffs on tile floors, provide excellent traction as I carry solar panels on steep roofs. And they look GREAT! So much so that I bought a second pair to never wear at work but only with jeans. They make great hiking boots because the high-top 8" canvass upper has no openings to allow in ticks or thorns. They probably really would be great jungle combat boots.... ... show more

  • Rothco Jungle boots
Color: Black Size: 9
These are pretty hard to beat for the price; they have a heavier sole than my 511s, which they quit making. I recommend buying a pair of insoles for these. I bought a size 9 Rothco Military Jungle Boot, and I usually wear a 10 1/2 to 11 in other boots. The insoles I bought for these are Sof Sole Men's Airr Orthotic Support Full-Length Insole. Size 11-12.5, they will fit perfectly in size 9. ... show more

  • Runs large
Color: Olive Drab Size: 10
I wear a size 11.5D, after seeing the reviews I ordered the 10. They are still tad loose, but thick socks take up the slack. I have worn this style of boots since my dinosaur died and I think the Rothco is a good example. So far I have no issues to report.
