  • Great dehydrator
Size: Large - 6 to 12 Trays
This is a pretty decent dehydrator. It takes a little getting used to at first, but it's nice. How to use: * You might be tempted to press the set button again after setting your heat and time, but don't do that. Just wait instead. You do need to press it once to get to the time, and once for the temperature, but if you press it a third time, it'll enter TST mode, and you might think it's broken, since it won't respond again when you press set (but it's not broken; you just configured it for automatic jerky). You can probably figure everything else out on your own. Pros: * The clear door makes the process a lot more convenient than I imagined, partially because opening the dehydrator would release heat and interfere with the process, and I like to look at it a lot. * I love the chrome-plated stainless steel racks. * Two fans * Long timers * Good temperature range (I haven't used a thermometer to test it) * TST mode for jerky (all you have to do is press the set button three times and it's all set to go) * It looks good. * It has space for twelve trays! It only comes with six, though, but that means you can dehydrate thicker stuff on six trays than you can in some six-tray dehydrators. * The trays are large: 15"x13". They don't have a proprietary fitting, either, by the look of it, so any 15" x13" tray should fit. Yes, it does need to be exactly that size. I measured. You might be tempted to think a tray wider than 13" would fit, because the opening at the front will fit a wider tray, but at the back, it narrows to 13". * Silicone mesh dehydrator inserts do not seem to slow down the dehydrating process (even on the bottom tray). I was kind of amazed at this. Don't use tin foil on it, though! That slows it down and is dangerous. * Washing the stainless steel trays is not impossible. I was pretty overwhelmed by the round plastic dehydrator trays on our old dehydrators. These are much more convenient, and can take up less space. Cons: * The glowing digital display is too blue (it's a white-ish blue). I'd prefer red, orange, yellow, or amber. Really, any color but blue, violet, or white would be much better. Yellow is probably the best compromise for visibility and health. * There's no drip tray. If things drip, they can actually fall through the vent onto the counter. But, it's actually not the end of the world. It doesn't look difficult to clean. I don't recommend covering the bottom tray, nor the vent, because it slows the dehydrating process. The vent lets out humid air. * Warm mode activates after dehydrating is done. It seems a waste of electricity as it only warms to about room temperature, without a fan going. I'd rather it just shut off. But, I'm anxious enough about dehydrated food that this isn't really an issue. I just turn it off when it's done. * No fan-only mode * No light inside. We got this for fruits and vegetables, mostly. I'm growing a lot of tomatoes, and I want to be able to preserve them conveniently, without having to can 100% of them. We were gifted 12.5 gallons of apricots, today! That sort of thing happens. So, it's nice to have a good dehydrator around for those events. Dehydrating using this dehydrator is much easier than canning. All you have to do is cut them up and wait, basically. No washing jars, prepping lids, cooking fruit, and ladeling into jars. I wish Amazon sold extra stainless steel trays. ... show more

  • Seems to run cool?
Size: Food Dehydrator
I'm using this a filament dryer, and I ran tests to see how hot it gets. Maybe its my thermometers, but I found the hotter temps, starting around 40c are around 5c or more off. It runs cool. So instead of it being 60c its 50-55c. Which I guess is OK for filament because you don't want it to melt. But for food I would wonder if that's a good thing. It has a nice temp wheel showing C and F, but there is no timer, you'll need something else for that, I got a dial timer that I can plug into it. Its runs very quiet. DO NOT PUT THIS INTO THE DISHWASHER that is what it said. That while you can wash it on the top rack you can't dry it. They said the plastic becomes brittle in the very hot temps, which is probably why all these reviews of this type of product showed shattered shelves. I think that's insane considering the product. And knowing this is a problem you would think they would choose a plastic better suited for heat? Also the cord is only like 3ft long, which really, couldn't put a 5ft cord on it? It makes it harder to use. ... show more

  • I haven't personally had a chance to use it...
Size: Food Dehydrator
I bought this to convert to a filament dryer for 3D printing filament. Unfortunately my wife was also thinking of getting a food dehydrator for the kitchen, and when this one arrived she asked to "try it out" and see if she liked it before buying her own. I haven't seen it since. Well, except maybe once in a while I see it on the counter where it is drying mushrooms or some other such thing. I guess she likes it. I bought this one because it was one of the cheapest on Amazon and I didn't need anything fancy for filament drying. She was originally thinking of getting something a little fancier, but has decided this this one works fine for her needs so I guess I'm not getting it back. I know in the beginning she was disappointed that it didn't have any kind of timer, but has since learned just to plan ahead so that it is "done" at convenient times. I think she has also said that it works best to periodically rotate (up and down) the trays for more even drying. So, I have no idea how well it might work for filament drying. I guess I'll have to buy another one if I want to find out. But if you're looking for a lost cost food dehydrator, this one has been "wife approved". ... show more

  • Works well! Temperature slightly inaccurate when using all 4 or more trays
Good product that works well, however I find myself having to raise the temp slightly when using 4 or more racks at once or 3 or more racks in the extended mode. It performs well and has been used quite a bit in the past year with no real issues to speak of other than slightly adjusting heat for large batches of particularly moist items. ... show more

  • Love It
Size: Food Dehydrator
I have a rabbit, and finding dried fruits without extra sugar or other chemicals added is difficult. I tried drying some fruit in the oven, but that didn't work out, so I got this. While the little instruction booklet is kinda in broken English, it's easy to figure out what they are trying to say. It included drying times for most types of fruit, but some I have had to time myself to get them dried well enough. I'm not sure why some people said it didn't get hot enough. The outside is warm to the touch, and I can pickup all the trays and handle them without burning myself, but I also wasn't expecting the temperature to be as hot as it says. I just rotate the trays of fruit every hour or so and they seem to dry just fine. The bottom tray is always the warmest, which is why I rotate the trays, that way they sort of evenly dry out. It works for what I need it to do, it's simple to use and to clean as well. ... show more
