Good Notes: For the price this bookshelf is a steal. I love the industrial feel and it feels very strong and sturdy even though it's so tall. It fit really well in the space against, the wall was 43 inches and this bookshelf was just shy of that. Other bookshelves were 47 inches and too wide for what I was looking for. The wood finish color is really premium, but the metal is copper/brass with black finish over it (the finish will rub off on your hands and more of the copper/brass will show). I plan on displaying my rock collection and have no concerns this bookshelf will have any issue with the weight. There are little feet on the bottom, similar to a fridge that let you level the bookshelf to your floors. Bad Notes: Honestly, I've never wanted to give up on putting a piece of furniture together more than with this one. It's not user friendly, non of the metal beams and boards line up (you will have to bend the frame some). The instructions say to leave the screws slightly loose so that you can adjust for the alignment but the screws aren't very long and it makes it extremely difficult to get them to start threading into the panels. The tool to screw the screws in is a little L shaped too, but I wish it had been slightly bigger because it was difficult to hold in my hand while crewing in everything. ... show more

This shelf unit was well packaged and arrived in good condition...and, remarkably, had every piece of hardware in the package (about 60 screws) and all pieces properly marked with stickers. The instruction manual is picture-based but is clear and easy to follow. The shelves are not real, solid wood, this is noted in the description, but they look very good. The metal frame elements have a brown finish that has a sort of orange finish under the brown, there are scratches and rubbed areas on the finish that shows the orange-ish color....is it supposed to look "distressed"?-- but it is not enough of an issue to return (see photos), I doubt that there would be any difference with a replacement. I may try to touch them up sometime with a brown marker but again, it is a minimal issue. Some important assembly tips: 1. Look very carefully at the diagrams to match the assembly of the metal frame parts and be sure you have the shelves oriented properly (the back and sides of each shelf have the wood edge around them.). The diagrams are surprisingly accurate. The first metal frame parts to assemble have different screw holes on the front and back sides so be careful to assemble these components carefully...if they are not put together right and you have to go back, it is easy to do so BECAUSE YOU FOLLOWED THE MOST IMPORTANT INSTRUCTION, which is #2.... 2. Heed the instruction advice which is on every page of the manual: DO NOT tighten the screws, give them enough turns to be sure they won't fall out but do not tighten....there are too many parts with multiple screws and the square metal frame will need to flex somewhat during assembly to get everything together. Resist the temptation to tighten them until the end! 3. A "manual" hex wrench is included, it works but it will take you forever if you use it. Use a manual ratcheting screwdriver or socket wrench that works with standard (it's either a 1/8 or 5/32") hex insert and you will save a ton of time and hand fatigue. 4. Don't use a drill with a hex bit in it for the screws unless you use it at the end for final tightening. it will turn the screws too quickly and tighten them too much, which will keep the frame from being able to have the slight flex needed to get every screw properly threaded. Best to use the manual ratchet, not the electric drill. 5. There are two included, small "straps" meant to attach the shelf to the wall using wall anchors (enclosed, but they are just plastic and I would not trust them to prevent a tip-over.) I chose not to anchor the unit, so I placed the heavy stuff on the bottom and used the floor levelers (included) to get the unit level (used a level on the shelves to get it as level as possible.). If you choose to anchor it to the wall, get a high quality pair of anchors or moly bolts. NOTE: This is an honest review and not a result of any incentive. I did receive a post card asking to earn a gift card but this review was written as soon as I assembled the unit but was not posted due to wanting to add the photos. A gift-card offer arrived before posting but did not change anything and I don't know if it is even legit. I do like this unit and was sure to point out the frame scratches and the sturdiness which earned a "4". ... show more

I was really concerned that these would look cheap. I have been burned with online furniture in the past, but I was truly surprised when these arrived. They are sturdy, elegant, and the fake wood actually looks good, not just like a sticker or some nonsense. These shelves hold a lot of books. The shelf is a great size. It is sturdy and overall it was easy to assemble BUT one the metal frames came with a slight dent. The dent was in an obscure place-where you slide in one frame to the next one. This created a problem. It did not slide in smoothly. It got stuck. I was able to spray W40 and somehow push it in but it was a struggle, if it weren’t for that then it was going back. When it came time to add the final part that was dented, it did not lay flat on the shelf. I had to press it down into the wood to make sure I could align the screw and push it in. Over all, it happened at the very end and I’m glad I was able to fix it. It was not a delivery issue. The box came in great condition - thanks Amazon. This was either inspected and disregarded but it should have never been. The dent in the piece that went in was very obvious and it should have been tested. Other than that, everything aligned. I was hesitate to order since sometimes the screws don’t align with the holes, but these were perfect. Great shelf. One of pictures shows the dent of the metal and how it holds up higher and doesn’t lay flat. It worked out in the end and am satisfied. I looked at bookcases for months, hundreds and hundreds of them. I was specifically looking for one that I could fit my smallish TV on, and while I'm sure the manufacturer wouldn't recommend this for safety/structural reasons, I did find that you can leave off a shelf to have enough space for one. The quality of the shelves themselves is fantastic. They're beautiful. I also love the distressed look of the frame, with the coppery colored bits. I also like the frame structure itself,. It seems almost Asian inspired, which is right up my alley. Compared to many that I looked at, the quality is really great, and the price can't be beat. I think that I am actually going to purchase a second one, just to have, for when I move to a bigger space, because two of them together would be great, and I have a lot of books!
