  • Keeps Ring camera charged up for months if it gets plenty of sunlight
Configuration: Video Doorbell (2nd Gen-2020 Rel...
I have had the original version of this for a little over 2 years, and have now purchased the newer version, which has the same product title, and looks like it is the same product. The newer one has a new AMZN page, but I think they are the same product: Original AMZN page (currently unavailable): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B085DVTYHN New AMZN page: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B3F9LS2G Here are my experiences with the product over the past 2+ years. I have just replaced it with the newer one and don't have enough experience yet to say if it is identical or not. My installation placement was so that it received full sun for several hours. It works pretty good, and kept the Ring doorbell charged for many months in all seasons. I did have problems and had to manually remove and recharge the Ring camera when we had a week or more of clouds and rain--in that case, the Ring battery went to zero after about a week or so. I have replaced the product now because the original one will no longer charge the camera due to the 3 solar panels being totally degraded. Orginal panels are slick and shiny, but 2+ years old panels look like black sandpaper. They no longer produce any power. Overall, for the price it's a good product, even if it has to be replaced every couple of years. That works out to about $25 a year, plus the bother of re-installing the new one, which just went right back where the old one already was -- same mounting holes, screws, size, etc. I put the same old Ring camera back on the new solar charger. If this little solar charger won't work for you, then you probably need a remote solar panel. Look for the ones sold (or similar with the right connector you need) for the Ring Stickup cams. Those are large panels, and can be placed at a distance and are easier to face towards the sun. I have several of those with Stickup Cams, and I've never had to manually recharge those batteries that are connected to the large panels, even during those long cloudy rainy periods. ... show more

  • Works great for my Ring doorbell
Configuration: Video Doorbell 3, 3+, 4, Battery...
I didn't want to go through the added expense of making a hole in my wall to run wire to connect a doorbell. So when I bought the ring battery pack doorbell, I also didn't want to go through the habit of constantly recharging the battery. Then I found this solar connection. Easy setup. Just have to line it up right with your door pre-drill some holes and then the screws that come with it, screw it onto your door and then link up this to your ring doorbell with the battery pack in it gently tighten the screws onto the connections for the solar panel and then screw in the ring doorbell camera. And voila, you're done. And since my door faces the sun on a regular basis, it keeps a constant charge. I would not recommend this if your door does not get any sunlight at all. This is strictly for somebody who doesn't have a front porch . Because it needs access to the sun. ... show more

  • Losing 3% of battery life a day is normal, according to Ring customer support
Configuration: Video Doorbell 3, 3+, 4, Battery...
I ordered two of these, one for each of my doorbells. One is on the SSE side of my home and one on the SSW. Both sides get hours a day of direct sunlight and since installation, we’ve had only one rainy day. The rest have been cloudless sunny days. When I installed these solar chargers, I also inserted fully charged batteries. Seven days later, one is at 81% and the other is at 79%. That’s an average of around 3% of battery life lost per day. As it happens, that’s the same amount as before I installed the solar chargers. When I called customer support, they informed me that this is “expected.” Expected, I asked? Do the solar chargers not use solar power to recharge the battery? Oh, they do, but motion reduces battery life and the solar panels only work when there’s at least four hours of sunlight. Okay, I said, but the motion hasn’t changed and six out of the last seven days have been cloudless sunny days. At the very least, I would expect them to not be going down at the same rate as before I installed the solar panels. The conversation continued like this for 37 minutes. At the end of which time, they told me to reduce the motion frequency setting and “monitor the system for a week.” I pointed out that this was a solution to a problem that I didn’t have and they said that this was all they could do. Takeaway? These products don’t work and Ring's customer support guidelines fully acknowledge that even in optimal conditions, it’s expected to lose 3% of battery life a day when you were losing 3% a day before installing the solar chargers. ***UPDATE*** Shortly after posting this review, I was contacted by a community support representative (this time US-based) who was exceedingly kind and helpful. She did a thorough analysis of my setup and determined that it was, in fact, underperforming. She went out of her way to help me optimize the system so that it is now only losing ~1.5% per day instead of 3%. One interesting fun fact is that merely keeping the Ring attached to the doorbell wires, even though they aren’t powered, results in the Ring receiving a "drip charge" that is on par with what the solar charger produces! While this is a significant improvement and while I did receive top notch customer service, I only got this service as a result of posting a negative review and ultimately, a solar panel charger that merely slows the rate of battery loss rather than keeping the Ring charged is a half-baked and borderline useless proposition. ... show more

  • Solar charger
Configuration: Video Doorbell (2nd Gen-2020 Rel...
Solar charger does work but it is not perfect because I still have to unplug my ring camera once in awhile to charge it because the solar charger is not charging it enough. Yes, it is located where it gets plenty of sun.

  • Workability depends on where your ring is located!
Configuration: Video Doorbell (2nd Gen-2020 Rel...
We purchased this hoping it would charge our front door ring. Regrettably it did not work for our front door as our awning provided too much shade. The solar charger did however work on our back door. The sun directly hit the solar lenses and has worked wonderfully for the past 7 months.
