For the low price paid these are fine for recreational off trail snow hikes. It’s all about the bindings. These are okay, plastic ratchets work but prone to wear out if doing heavy duty daily. I have been using these snow shoes for a few weeks now and do not regret my purchase in the slightest! I am new to the snowshoeing world so I didn’t want to spend an arm and a leg on a pair so after reading many reviews on this particular brand I decided I would give them a try. Bought these a few months back and finally used them for the first time a few days ago. I had roughly 5” of powder to use them in, they did great. They stayed on and were easy to use the ratcheting straps and take off. These were not good to use on a packed trail. The snow gums up under the heel and crampon part under the toe which throws off your gait then you have to stop and clear out the packed snow which is hard to do and annoying. The heel strap has a removable rubber grip on it. This needs to be shorter in length for those with smaller feet bc you can’t get it tight enough unless you remove this. ... show more

These are easy to adjust, stay in place pretty well and have survive three hikes so far. Sizing on all snowshoes seems to avoid accounting for snow conditions. These are okay for old snow but sized too small for fresh powder.

I was super excited to get these snowshoes. I snowshoe everyday during the winter and have always used the classic wooden snowshoes. The Retrospec snowshoes were a Christmas gift to myself, a jump into a modern design. About a half mile into my maiden voyage with them, they broke, the rivet that holds the rotating foot swivel snapped. :( This wasn’t in deep snow either but a well packed down trail from my other snowshoe adventures. To say I was bummed and disappointed, is putting it mildly. I contacted Retrospec and their customer service was good. They offered to send a replacement pair but I was worried if I did that the new ones would break too and I wouldn’t be able to return to Amazon. These have been great this winter! Easy to use and have gotten a lot of use this year. Highly recommend. I did have to trim off some of the straps as they were way too long, but better to do that than have them not fit.
