Good regency dress

I bought two of these Regency styled dresses to fit two very petite young women for a historical reenactment. As a group of novice sewers, we were having trouble figuring out how to reduce down patterns to fit their under 4 ft frames, on a quickly shrinking timeline, and were in desperate need of something that would work fast. These fit the bill and the bodies! The costumes came together decently with this as the main visual piece. Since it was an outdoor fall reenactment near cooking fires, they were strictly warned to avoid close proximity to fires and embers, since the material is flammable. The material was thin on these for cold days, but layers of shawl, apron, petticoat and wool stockings helped make up for that. Sleeve elastics were removed and rehemmed to make the sleeves more comfortable, and the skirt hemline altered on the shorter one. These costumes have since been replaced with home sewn, cotton replacements that are safer around the fires. However, these were a good budget friendly kickstart to their passion for historical reenactment.

Ok as long as your body is just right.

Overall notes to keep in mind if buying: the lighter purple dress is sheer and can be seen through (other colors are not). The bust is more large bust friendly (anyone below a D cup proceed with caution). It is not friendly for people with narrow shoulders it will stay up due to the elastic in the sleeves but the top of the dress will keep trying to flop off. I ordered this dress in a small and medium for my friend and I to use for a Bridgerton event. We both usually wear medium, but I ordered both small and medium figuring I could always return one in exchange for another of the size that fit us both. Unfortunately, they didn't work for either of us. The small fit her everywhere bit the bust, the chest was huge on her. For myself the small fit fine in the bust, but wouldn't stay up in the shoulders. I was going to keep it until I realized the light purple fabric is see through! Anything under it other than a very pale pink I could see easily through the dress. The medium was green and wasn't see through, so I think its just the pale purple color. This could easily be solved with a pale colored slip. However, as I'd also have to have it altered to fit either of us I sadly had to return.

Such a good buy!

This was a great buy. I took the elastic out of the sleeves as they were a bit too tight on my large arms, and added some lace, but otherwise the dress fit fine! I received many compliments on it, and it was very comfortable. :). It was very wrinkled and took a while to iron out, but once ironed, it didn't wrinkle very easily. Love it!

Had to return due to odor

The dress was attractive and appeared to be well-made. However, it had clearly been worn before and smelled of perspiration. I'd hoped to wear the item to a Regency-themed event, but had to wear something else. I had ordered the blue version - the fabric seemed to be of good quality (I did not try it on, due to the above concern). It looked similar to the image on the listing, and had the appropriate "Regency" look I wanted. If you're considering ordering this dress, I'd recommend ordering it well in advance in case the problem I encountered happens. Others have mentioned the same concern about odor, and had I ordered it earlier, I could have requested a return and ordered a substitute in time for the event.

You pay for what you get! This ran small in my opinion but it was only $15 so it was adequate for the Bridgerton inspired tea event since I’ll only wear it one time.

This dress is well made. The color is accurate. I bought the fuchsia. I am 5'1" and a perfect size 16 dress. I bought the XXL based on other reviews. I could've bought the xl easily. This one runs a tad big in the shoulders and waist even though I checked the measurements. I'm not complaining. I'm going to tack it at the shoulders to tighten the fit. The ribbon takes care of the waist (it'll have more gathering). The chest fits well, 40D (me) up to maybe DD. I'll be able to resell it as a size 18 OR 16 untacked. The dress IS LONG. As I said, I'm 5'1", this will definitely be long enough for someone at up to 5'11"! Regency style is to the ankles, so it's plenty long enough. If I went with the smaller size it would still be long for me. All in all, I'm happy with it. Can't expect perfect when shopping online. It's WELL worth the money!
