How did I go through over 50 years of sewing and not have one of these? For more than 50 years I struggled getting my seams to lay flat when I would press them no matter how much steam I used. This pressing pad is the best thing I have ever added to my sewing room...other than an embroidery machine. I mostly craft so and I handle tiny seams and this pressing pad gets them flat in a matter of seconds. I don't have to keep my hands close to steam long enough to feel it. This is the best portable wool pressing mat I've ever used. It is very thick & I've never had an issue with heat going through to the table I'm working on. It's the perfect size for setting next to your sewing machine even if your work space is small. I'm pleasantly surprised by how great this wool mat really is! I've heard many quilters talk about what a difference using a wool mat makes when making blocks but I wasn't willing to spend 50-80 bucks to find ot for myself but when I saw this one listed for such a reasonable price and free shipping for prime members, it was a much lower risk so I figured I'd give it a try. I actually thought I'd end up with something cheap and flimsy, I was wrong. The mat is plenty thick enough, firm and doesn't smell funny like some I've read about. Also, I've read reviews about how some mats leaving a residue or discoloration on fabric and or irons, that has not been my experience at all. I iron with an extremely hot iron and have not had any problems at all. I also have read about heat penetrating the bottom side of some wool mats and ruining table tops the mat was on while in use, that as well hasn't been an issue either because I have the wool mat on a foiled, padded and fabric covered standing tray that stays next to my machine. I have not tried putting the wool mat on a plain surface of any kind and see no reason for testing that method. To top it all off, it does just as well as any of the expensive mats. My quilt blocks really do look much better! They lay alot nicer and have an overall flatter and neater appearance. Very happy and highly recommend! Thank you so much! ... show more

I didn't think about not being able to use a really hot iron. What I bought it for was ironing finished cross stitch which is usually on cotton fabric so not as helpful as I thought.
