As a player and coach, with a son who also plays baseball, we have a lot of experience with bats in our family, going all the way back to the pre-BBCOR days. Bats these days come in a wide range of price points, depending on whether they are one piece, two piece, what kind of composite, brand, and how recently released. The past releases of Rawlings Icon bats are great and have a lot of pop. This ‘Rawlings 2026 ICON Baseball Bat” is the new 2026 release. It’s a BBCOR model, so it is allowed at all levels of play. The bat is slightly end weighted, but actually it’s the most balanced end weighed bat I’ve ever swung. The thin part of the lower section of the barrel extends much higher up the bat than the usual taper, and this might take some getting used to if you haven’t used this design. However, it quickly forces you to keep your hands in to make barrel contact, and the good news is that the sweet spot on the barrel is much larger than tapered bats. Composite bats have a much ‘duller’ sound than one piece bats, without that crack sound. This is normal. Like other composite bats, this one needs to be broken in. Suggested break in is 50-100 balls (real balls, not batting cage balls) hit off a tee, or flip toss, at no more than 50% swing strength, while turning the barrel in your hand a quarter turn after each 10 hits. After a 100 balls, increase swing power slightly (less than 75%) for another 100 balls. After that, gradually increase to full strength. This bat has amazing pop. Even at the 50% break-speed, balls jump off the bat and go significantly farther than other bats. The bat feels well balanced in the hand and swings are almost effortless (we have the 33 inch model). The weight came in at almost exactly 30 ounces. The color isn’t quite as pastel as it might appear, more of a matte look, which I prefer. Tip: Do not use composite bats when the weather is less than 55 degrees F, especially if the baseballs are cold. Cracked bats can almost always caused by no break-in and/or using in weather that is too cold. Batting cage balls are also not good for them because of the heavier weight/density. This is simply an amazing bat. While it is expensive, the price is in line with other high end composite 2 piece bats that don’t perform as well.

This is easily the best bat I have ever used. It has everything that I was looking for - incredible pop, balance, look, and grip feel. A lot of things about bats are up to the user to decide, but there are some objective things as well. First, this is a BBCOR bat so it is eligible for all levels of play. Second, this bat has a -3 drop, which is the limit for all BBCOR bats, so you will not find a better length-to-weight ratio anywhere. Third, every single professional review I saw about this bat says that it is a #1 choice because of the subjective things I listed earlier. My first impression of the bat was that it looked amazing. It is a light teal color and has a cool tapered grip that is really tacky on its own. The bat feels very well-balanced in my hands and while swinging, so balanced that it seems to want to follow my swing path on its own by mimicking my body movements. I took it to the field to test it out, and I think I added at least 10 yards to what I was hitting with my old bat on everything I got a hold of. The sweet spot is massive, and the sound is one that you will dream about. Outcomes depend on your hitting ability, but I will tell you that this bat makes a difference. Many will say that the bat you swing does not determine contact, but in some cases, it can influence it. I think that the balance of this bat keeps your swing in line with both the pitch and your natural swing. Baseball is a game where the outcome can be determined by a tiny fraction of an inch. One little bit of movement changes a homerun into a weak fly ball, so every advantage is needed. I cannot speak as to the durability of the bat, but mine has about 300 hits on it so far, and it looks and feels like it did out of the box. If you are shopping for yourself, get this bat. If you are shopping for a gift, get them this bat.

DISCLAIMER: REVIEW PARTIALLY BASED ON GRANDCHILD'S FEEDBACK, ITEM WAS A CHRISTMAS GIFT BLUF: BALANCED - TYPICAL RAWLINGS PRO & COLLEGIATE QUALITY - NOW PRODUCED IN YOUTH SIZE This item, along with another Rawlings product, was purchased as a Christmas gift for my grandchild, and this review reflects his feedback after multiple practices and games. Performance was his primary concern— a big deal for younger players. Durability was the primary concern of the parent, especially for a premium product. Balance is the gold standard for baseball bats, a metric you will see repeated in this review and others. Without a proper balance, a bat will either accelerate or decelerate through the swing arc as the center of balance changes due to fluctuating centrifugal force; that's fancy talk, which means the bat will control the player's swing versus the player controlling the bat's swing. While designed for youth, I put the bat through a few dozen balls at a local batting cage, with simply amazing balance; the bat far exceeds the balance and swing of top-shelf Collegiate models of even a few years ago. TO BE CLEAR: This is not an entry-level bat for an emerging player, it's pricey. The real value will be how it holds up over a full season, but early durability and comfort have been encouraging. ✔ PROS: SOLID BALANCE • AGE-APPROPRIATE DESIGN PROPORTIONS • CONFIDENCE BOOSTING FEEL ❌ CONS: HIGHER PRICE- MAY BE COST PROHIBITIVE FOR MULTI-PLAYER PARENTS • QUALITY IS GOOD IF TREATED WITH CARE, SOMETHING KIDS OFTEN NEGLECT MY RATING: 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆 RECOMMENDED: Top-notch balance and design, great quality, and durable if not left in the rain or used to hammer nails.
