As a player and coach, with a son who also plays baseball, we have a lot of experience with bats in our family, going all the way back to the pre-BBCOR days. Bats these days come in a wide range of price points, depending on whether they are one piece, two piece, what kind of composite, brand, and how recently released. The past releases of Rawlings Icon bats are great and have a lot of pop. This ‘Rawlings 2026 ICON Baseball Bat” is the new 2026 release. It’s a BBCOR model, so it is allowed at all levels of play. The bat is slightly end weighted, but actually it’s the most balanced end weighed bat I’ve ever swung. The thin part of the lower section of the barrel extends much higher up the bat than the usual taper, and this might take some getting used to if you haven’t used this design. However, it quickly forces you to keep your hands in to make barrel contact, and the good news is that the sweet spot on the barrel is much larger than tapered bats. Composite bats have a much ‘duller’ sound than one piece bats, without that crack sound. This is normal. Like other composite bats, this one needs to be broken in. Suggested break in is 50-100 balls (real balls, not batting cage balls) hit off a tee, or flip toss, at no more than 50% swing strength, while turning the barrel in your hand a quarter turn after each 10 hits. After a 100 balls, increase swing power slightly (less than 75%) for another 100 balls. After that, gradually increase to full strength. This bat has amazing pop. Even at the 50% break-speed, balls jump off the bat and go significantly farther than other bats. The bat feels well balanced in the hand and swings are almost effortless (we have the 33 inch model). The weight came in at almost exactly 30 ounces. The color isn’t quite as pastel as it might appear, more of a matte look, which I prefer. Tip: Do not use composite bats when the weather is less than 55 degrees F, especially if the baseballs are cold. Cracked bats can almost always caused by no break-in and/or using in weather that is too cold. Batting cage balls are also not good for them because of the heavier weight/density. This is simply an amazing bat. While it is expensive, the price is in line with other high end composite 2 piece bats that don’t perform as well. ... show more
