I use these sandals only indoors. For this, they are excellent. It took a few days to break-in. During this time, the strap is quite tight, so follow their advice and don't try to break them in at one time. After this, they fit well and provide good arch support and are very comfortable to wear. I bought this pair to replace my Chaco (the leather version is no longer made). The support is not quite as good, but overall the sandals are more comfortable and support more than adequate for me. If the leather footbed lasts (I wear them barefoot), these will be worth the price.

Well, I decided it was time to but some new Rainbows. I usually keep a black pair and a brown pair. You know, for fashion. I actually had to throw out my black pair not long ago. It was unexpectedly heartbreaking to toss them in a trash can on the streets of New Orleans, but I had been doing a lot of walking that weekend, and they had gotten wet, and it was humid, and they were old, and I was getting blisters. Mind you, I wear sandals every damn day if it's above 50F. My feet are strong. But this was just a bad combination of circumstances, and they had to go, replaced by some cheap sneakers from Payless, just to get me through the day. Anyway. I noticed today that the brown ones are wearing a little thin. Still totally serviceable and comfortable, but the soles are pretty bare now, so their end-of-life looms in the near future. So I get on Amazon to reorder. Guess when I made my previous purchase. I bought the brown ones in 2012 and the blacks in 2013. I'm not exaggerating when I say I wear them every day and everywhere. To work, to the lake, to the beach, doing yard work, walking the dog. I've traveled countless miles in them. They've been wet, sandy, sun-baked, and abused. To have gotten five good years out of them is simply impressive. And so, I confidently return to buy a new pair (or two) of the double layer Rainbows. So when my current flops finally give up the ghost, I've got a replacement, broken in and ready to go, with no down time. They're more expensive than I'd want to spend on sandals, but they're worth it. I wear a 9.5 in most shoes, and my feet are EE wide. The Rainbows Medium fits me great. The strap starts out a little snug, but it quickly stretches ever so slightly to accommodate my fat flippers. Then it holds that shape over the years, which is nice, because a good fitting thong means I'm not wearing out my toes, curling them with each step to keep the shoe from flying off. This is just a comfortable, durable, and well-fitting shoe, with a great warranty on top of all that. Trust me. I'm a sandal guy. I buy Rainbows.

I love and only wear Rainbows. I wear them almost EVERYDAY unless it’s too cold. Even then, I’ll wear them indoors. They last for YEARS. This is my third pair in 20 years and I rotate 3 colors year round. They are THE BEST.

After resisting buying these sandals for years due to their reputation for a long break in period, I finally bought a pair, and now I am kicking myself for not getting them earlier. I am a huge fan of good year welted leather boots, so I am very familiar with the break in period for leather footwear to conform to your foot. These are no different. The leather and construction are top quality; but that top quality will probably give you blisters prior to break in. There are endless tips on tge internet to break in your leather footwear; the only sure fire way to do it I've ever found without potentially damaging your leather is to just wear them. My method was to wear the daylights these with a pair of toe socks around the house for a week, and it worked. Now I have them molded to my feet with no blisters. The arch support is spot on and they ran perfect to size ( I am 10.5 on a brannock and ordered a size L). The straps are tight enough to keep them on my feet but supple enough to prevent blisters or pain. Great sandals I am sure I will be wearing for years.

I recently lost weight and my feet shrunk a bit, so my old leather sandals (Olukai) no longer fit right. I was searching for another pair of the Olukai and ran across some pretty great reviews for the Rainbow Sandals. Figured I would give them a try. They are some of the most comfortable footwear I've ever owned...after breaking them in. Heed the reviews that tell you about sizing. They do in fact fit somewhat small and very tight on the thong at first. I am almost an exact size 10 measured from toe to heel, and had to get the XL size, The large would have let my heel hang over the back. The thong is extremely tight upon unboxing, but after wearing for a few days the leather and nylon stitching stretches to a custom fit, as designed (per the Rainbow Sandal website). The memory foam bed conforms to your specific foot shape. They are incredibly comfortable. Not only that, but they are also very versatile. They look casual enough to wear with gym shorts slumming it to the grocery store, and still look classy enough to wear with some J Crew casual dress shorts and a Polo to dinner out on a porch. I am going to purchase the tan soon, at least before next summer. I own the brown now. As a side note: I realize that flip flops inherently make a "flop" sound when walking, but I hate loud sandals. These are very quiet and have a pleasant, soft thud against your heel. Another reviewer referred to it as the door of an Aston Martin shutting. That statement is right on the money. Also, I've never owned the single layer, but took the word of previous owners to go ahead and purchase the double layer. I don't know why you would get the single layer; these are so comfortable, and I have to believe at least some of that comes from the extra cushioning. Definitely recommend, and will be buying more in the future!
