  • Quality Valve Guard
I've had the same Schilke leather wrap on my trumpet for literally 30 years... it was past time to get a new one. My previous wrap left the metal where the 3rd valve meets the 3rd valve slide exposed and my fingers resting on there over the years has really worn down and corroded the metal severely. In shopping around, this Pro Tec wrap was the most complete coverage I could find, including a really good leather flap that fully covers that area and manages to do it without impeding the motion of the 3rd valve slide. This guard is really well made and the materials are quality and don't smell bad. My fingers don't touch the metal anywhere except the slides and valve caps, and the right hand pinky hook! My only issue is just a matter of me getting used to it - I realize I've been tucking my left thumb under the leadpipe all these years and now there is a leadpipe cover blocking my thumb. It doesn't seem to be an issue, but just something a bit different I'm getting used to. Overall, very happy with this purchase. Recommended. ... show more

  • Only a little better than the Pampet valve guard, but not 2x better
Like: Nicely designed. Comfortable. The Pro Tec valve guard has good competition in the Pampet valve guard, but the slightly stiffer Pro Tec makes it just a little better for me than the Pampet version. They're identical in design, but the Pro Tec valve guard's stiffer leather keeps the section above the left index finger better in place. But it's not worth twice the price of the Pampet valve guard. Dislike: It's twice the cost of the Pampet, but not two times better than the Pampet. I wouldn't buy the Pro Tec valve guard if I had to do it over. The Pro Tec is nice. Don't get me wrong. It's just not twice as nice as the Pampet valve guard. ... show more

  • Has a problem right where you don't want it. :(
This is nicely made except for one extremely critical point and it's extremely irritating! Where your left index finger wants to wrap around the valve casing under the bell, there is a notch where 2 pieces of leather come together, it's not made right right at this location, the cover should go up higher on the valve casing , because your index finger ends up resting right on the notch formed by the e4ges of 2 pieces of leather, and that makes it extremely uncomfortable and causes you to grip the case in a detrimental way :( There is also stitching all the way around it on the edges that is rough and will irritate your fingers. I don't recommend this for anyone really. Poorly designed. How unfortunate. I'm not going to buy things online anymore I think. ... show more

  • then it is nice (minus the odd cutting you may have done)
Warning for Trumpets with a 1st Valve Trigger - you will need a sharp pair of scissors to customize this item. It is meant only for horns with a 1st valve ring/U slide. After you've cut the leather apart to fit your horn, then it is nice (minus the odd cutting you may have done). Good quality leather, nice stitching, good feel. Pretty much my fault - I didn't even think about that first valve. Live and learn. ... show more

  • Too much and not enough at the same time.
First, I didn't like all the loose tube coverings. They kept on getting bent when I grabbed my horn. It's like I had to be careful when getting my horn. In addition, there were several spots that were not covered when I held my horn. So, it got returned. Great quality though. Might be better for smaller hands? ... show more

  • Great protection for trumpet finish
Just installed this on Kanstul trumpet. Great product- MUCH better protection from hand acids to finish than previous valve guards I have installed. Having had significant loss of silver finish on 2 previous trumpets and hand contact areas- this is a great improvement. I am going to install on my other 2 Schilke instruments as well! ... show more

  • Comfort!!! Yesssss!!!
Why did I never have one of these before? This leather guard make handling my trumpet so much more comfortable. Not as great on a hot day but that’s to be expected. Leather is nice and soft and was easy to put on after you figure it out.

  • It appears of great value
Well I have not had it for long yet but appears to be a great product for his intention. Fits perfect and it is not an annoyance while using it. It feels very comfortable.
