Features

  • PiSugar 3 plus adds a software watchdog function. When the function is turned on, the dog needs to be kicked regularly, which can effectively prevent the Raspberry Pi from crashing and improve the reliability of the system.
  • PiSugar 3 plus provides hardware battery protection like never before, limiting battery voltage to nearly 80%. When charging protection is turned on, the battery cycles life can be improved.Set up quadruple overvoltage protection function, overcurrent protection function and undervoltage protection function to ensure the safety of the Raspberry Pi, PiSugar as well as the lithium battery.
  • PiSugar 3 plus continues to use the pogo pin design to connect with Raspberry Pi from the back. In this way, it does not occupy the GPIO, and is compatible with other GPIO devices.
  • PiSugar 3 plus has full UPS functions and can set up multiple awakening methods to meet various unique project needs.
  • PiSugar 3 plus communicates with the Raspberry Pi through the I2C interface and is compatible with most I2C devices. In addition, the I2C communication address can be customized to avoid I2C address conflicts.

  • Compact and Works Well
There are two things about this products that stand out. Its functionality right out of the box and the size. If you have used other Raspberry Pi HATs then you will know that those products are placed on top of a Pi on the GPIO pins. While it helps keep things portable, the thing to keep in mind is that the lowest those products can sit is on top of the Ethernet and USB ports. The fact that this products sits underneath the Pi with a few pins that make contact with some of the GPIO pins underneath the Raspberry Pi is a gamechanger. Another thing with this product is that the holes for where the screws go through when mounting to a Pi are threaded. This is great to see because a majority of HATs and Pi attachments do not have built in threads for the Pi to be screwed into but instead require a nut as well. It is small details like these that help keep the device to as small of a form factor as possible. A concern I had with using this product was that due to the other functions that this products offers for I2C communication, I was concerned that it could interfere with using a display that I have attached to the GPIO pins of my Pi. This was not the case and it all worked perfectly. I will say that I have not worked on getting the I2C communication running with my Pi so I cannot confirm the quality of those features. Even with that being said, I would still recommend this product for users looking to power their Pi that have a priority in portability, reliability, and overall size ... show more

  • Works great, wish you could connect a bigger battery.
This thing is awesome! No false advertisement here, does all that it claims to! I wish you could connect a bigger battery for longer life. Currently I have connected this to my raspberry pi 4 and use it to take time lapse photos around the house, then compile the photos to a video using ffmpeg. I’d give it 5 out of 5 if this had a larger capacity battery. ... show more

  • All around really great
Everything is solid from my use. The installation was dead simple, instructions are detailed and covered ALL my edge cases (such as not having raspi-config). I was impressed. The physical quality is good and the software is too. Also the last thing that is really thoughtful is the 3d prints files for a compatible case on their GitHub. They’re a great company. ... show more

  • Unplug the battery from the board before attaching a Raspberry Pi!
Make sure to unplug the battery before attempting to attach a Pi to this, as it will turn the system on immediately, and fry your Pi if the pogo pins jiggle around as you screw it down. Otherwise, it seems like a great UPS (and should be for the insane amount of money it costs), but I'm pissed at it for the time being, as it killed a brand new Pi, with that janky pogo pins/power issue, so knocked a star. ... show more

  • Good Design but Some Things You Should Know
I'm building a Pi-based media server and need battery backup in case of power outages that can corrupt a Pi. I used a Pi4B I had laying around. A media server needs a screen so I'm using the official Pi 7" screen. First thing to know - it you have to mount to a screen the battery in this UPS has to be mounted somewhere else - the battery blocks all of the holes so you cannot run screws through the UPS board to the screen mounts with the battery in place. To move the battery you can use JST-PH 2.0 fittings, a male and female, to make an extension cable. You can find packages of these on Amazon. I just soldered a male and female pigtail together to make an extension cable... works fine. Mounting to the Pi is a bit trickly as well. The pogo pins work but you have to align things perfectly and very slowly screw down the board to the Pi to avoid overstressing the Pi or the UPS board. The pogo pins compress easily but there are six of them and the combined spring tension means you have to go slow. Putting the board under the Pi is a good idea but though it doesn't use the GPIO pins (the 40 connectors on the board) is still occupies (uses) several pins to transfer power and data. Other boards you might add to your Pi might want access to the pins so you have to be careful about creating problems with dual use. Finally, the PiSugar 3 does come with many other features including it's own webpage. However, unless you know how to program those features are not terribly useful as most are not accessible through the webpage (web GUI). The used manual (which is really a wiki page) is hard to comprehend if you don't know how to read data registries and write your own software scripts. It's a well-designed board but it's hard to know in advance all the landmines before purchasing. I've made it work but this is an item with some challenges. And make sure you understand Pi power features. A power supply with an on-off button might not work if the UPS keeps the system running when you're trying to turn it off. ... show more

  • Instructions are a bit tricky but good features
Currently in use with RaspPi4, connections were dead simple and the module can function without the software. Getting to the software itself can be a bit tricky if you're not familiar with the command line prompt. if you use a vpn you may want to not use it while attempting the install.
