The lock is different than other leashes I’ve used. Instead of pushing and flicking the switch the switch engages automatically. It’s taking some getting used to, but it doesn’t auto lock 100% of the time. It also twists occasionally and won’t retract properly. The 26 foot length is really nice since I can let the dog out to do his business while I stay in the house. The only complaint I have is I think the retractor spring could be just a teeny bit stronger/faster, but that's nit-picking to be honest. This does operate different than all the ones I've used before. Usually, leashes like this have a momentary pushbutton to stop and release, and then a slide button to lock it in place. This device operates a little differently; you press the button to stop and it auto-locks every time. You then have to slide the button forward to unlock and release/retract the leash. You do have to release the tension on the leash before it will unlock though. Some people have said it tends to jam and I think it's just a matter of getting used to how it operates compared to most units like this. Since I got accustomed to this, I haven't had it jam or lock unexpectedly. ... show more

    • It's well made, but the lock is clumsy.

The line is smooth and strong, and the product is well made to last for years. My only issue is that when the dog starts to go someplace, like around a tree, and you want to stop it, but not lock it, you can not just pump the break. It's either free or lock. So you have to be quick with the thumb and this is kind of a hassle. Other than that, this was well made and will work fine. Up date: 7/2/21: Ok, it can break without locking if you hold the outer ring just right. Still clumsy, but you can do it. It will take practice. So, I gave it 5 stars. The handle is smooth and the toggle is easy to use once you get used to it but anti-bite it is not. We weren't 20 feet from the back gate when my Shar Pei took it in her mouth and bit through it in two places. They are only holes so I'm able to patch it but I bought it because of the anti-bite claim and am very disappointed that it doesn't come close to living up to the hype. ... show more

I bought the 26 ft lead, I have had this length in the past, but not this brand. I always love when a Company does something extra for the customer, so I was delighted to open the package and find 1) THE LEAD 2) A COLLAR W/ CLASP 3) A FOLDER ATTACHABLE WATER BOWL W CLASP 4) A WASTE BAG HOLDER W/ CLIP. 5) WASTE BAGS INSIDE THE HOLDER. wHAT A GREAT SET OF SUPPLIES. Yes, the dog will trip on a 26 foot- duh!!!. And sometimes retracting is clumsy, as has been the case with most of my leads, and I have had al least 10 of them. While everyone was eager to complain , I saw only one comment that happened to mention all the extras YOU WON'T GET WITH OTHER LEADS. So, I'm very happy with this product. Carol A. Pros: 1. Lightweight for the length of the leash 2. Nice reflective level on the leash ribbon 3. Has buttons similar to the Flexi leashes 4. The leash attachment thing is a good size and has a nice, big size clip part for ease in clipping leash onto harness. See photo for size comparison. Cons: 1 and 2. Safety is a major concern! Please see pics for the tear in the ribbon discovered on @MaizyShiba ‘s first walk and “recess” with it. I had to tell her a fair amount to wait for me to adjust the leash as needed, which I never had to do with other leashes of hers, my first service dog, and of friends dogs that I have dog Sat in the past. 3. It is not smooth feeling leash like in the Flexi leashes in good condition. 4. It's huge in size. 5. It's simply cheaply made, which shows during a walk using it. From the feel and even sound, I wouldn't trust the interior "Retractable wheel" part to past long at all. 6. While the interior grip part is kinda nice, it doesn't make up for how it's simply awkward to hold. I have used large leashes without a concern for being able to hold it well in a couple different positions ( a requirement for multi-taskers aka anything more than a simple empty handed walk around the block) but not this Pina leash. End Result: Return and advising others to avoid this leash. P.S. Remember to avoid the string style of Retractable leashes for safety of everyone no matter how nice it is and how well trained your furbaby and you are. ... show more

I have been using retractable leashes a long long time (15 or so years). I've never tried one that was so very un-instinctive. If you push on the latch to stop the leash from going in or out it automatically locks. It took a fair amount of fiddling to figure out how to unlock it. (it was never easy even after i figured out how) and even more fiddling to figure out how to stop the leash without locking it. It is also fairly heavy, and since it is shaped/designed a bit different than other retractable leashes it feels awkward in the hand. I don't know if that would go away ith regular use. The clip on to the dogs collar is the biggest most heavy-duty-iest clip Ive ever seen on a leash. It is utterly absurd on our 10 lb dog, but would be excellent on bigger dog. The leash itself seems sturdy, its a wide tape leash, and spools out and in smoothly. I wanted a long leash for a small dog. Something retractable he could be put on in an unfenced yard or at the park to keep our little Hound-ini from escaping. This is sooo not that leash. Back to the drawing board ... show more

This retractable leash has a much larger hand hold allowing for a better grip on “pullers”. It works well on the buttons also
