  • Ran a 5K with my 50lb son on my back
Color: Scout (Black)
This thing is more designed for hiking, but I recently ran/power walked a 5K with my kid strapped on and it got the job done. My son is a tall 5yo that weighs 50lbs. The harness system was just too complicated for frequent hopping on and off of the rig, so he held on to two straps located on the shoulders. (See photo 2) There was a lot of bouncing when running, but it was manageable at a fast power walk pace. The metal bar/your kids feet will be whacking you in the rear and hamstrings pretty much the entire time, to some degree. The construction of the piggyback rig is solid, though the adjustment straps for the back bar eventually did loosen and had to be tightened a couple times. But with that said, my son is at the maximum weight and I was moving at a fast pace. I would recommend it more for trail hiking, but it will work if you’re bringing a child on a race with you and they’re just too big for a stroller. ... show more

  • Great for crowds, until your kid steps off the bar.
Color: Scout (Black)
I have more CONS than PROS about this product. We used this during 4th of July- the ability to get your kid onto it is good. The bar does push on your back after an extended wear and without the belt accessory- shoulders start get weary 😮💨. All the weight is distributed to the shoulders, wearing it higher works but for 5’2”- it throws my Balance off. I wish there was a chest buckle for the kid harness- my kid easily got out to run to a toy vendor. (Laughs). I think adding pads to the bar would also help with positioning kids footing easier- my kid shoes was very snug into my hip while the entire bar rested mostly on my lower back. It’s a great idea but still needs modifications especially for the cost. I did return it, I really wanted to keep it for hiking and other adventures. There was more CONS than PROS. ... show more

  • Just OK... nothing to get excited about.
Color: Scout (Black)
We bought our Piggyback Rider two years ago when my daughter was nearly two because we spend a lot of time at theme parks and she was not interested in riding in a stroller. She will be four soon and we still use it occasionally but not nearly as much as I would have liked for the price. The Pros: -Rider is small & lightweight enough to fit in a diaper bag, keep in the car between uses, or wear without a kid in it. -It’s wonderful for things like parades and shows because it gets the kid up to adult height without blocking other people’s view the way it does when a kid sits on your shoulders. -It’s very easy to put on & take off if you have another adult with you, so it’s no big deal if the kid changes their mind about wanting up or down. -It is a lot faster to move through a large crowded area wearing this, than trying to get a toddler to focus on where you are walking. The Cons: -It is somewhat better than carrying a kid on your shoulders, but still pretty painful. I’m 5’3” and my husband is 5’11” and neither of us have ever been able to wear it more than an hour or so without a break. There just isn’t enough padding and weight distribution with this the way there is with a traditional baby carrier. -The bar slides down on one side and up on the other if the child shifts their weight, making it difficult to keep them balanced and occasionally putting a lot of pressure on the adult’s spine. -It still requires the child to stand during use so it is only a partial break for them while adding burden to the adult. -It’s quite challenging to put on without another adult around. Overall, I wouldn’t say that I regret this purchase but I’m also not raving about it to my friends. It’s one of those things that is handy to have around if you really have the extra money, but isn’t worth the splurge if things are tight financially. ... show more

  • Lightweight, great for the one being carried AND the one carrying!
Color: Scout (Black)
Got this for a vacation trip where we were worried our (not so) little one would get tuckered out on hikes and long outings but wouldn't have a stroller available. (And we weren't keen on carrying him in our arms for long periods.) I was nervous about three things: 1) If he would even be willing to 'ride' on this at all 2) If it would be comfortable for us having him on there for any length of time 3) The price given #1 & #2 Turns out this was a huge hit for all of us. He wasn't just willing, he LOVED getting on our backs and standing up on the bar, he could see things from that vantage point but felt secure and comfortable and wasn't being constantly shifted between different positions and people carrying him. He did occasionally get excited and put his weight on one side or the other for a minute but it wasn't actually an issue shifting him back and he never felt like he would slip. With some adjustments (the harness has straps to tighten etc) it was fine carrying the weight (~40lbs in our case). You do feel the weight but not in ways that strain your body. We hiked in a forest and did a couple of miles on city streets and it was fine. And when done you're not aching once you take it off. Given how great it worked and that it's so portable and light to pack/carry the price is actually great value. Doesn't replace a stroller or wagon for long distances but fantastic for traveling or when you're going somewhere where those big carriages can't go. Definitely recommend it for kids getting too big for strollers but not going to survive long distances walking themselves the whole time. ... show more
