It doesn't get close enough like a razor and didn't grab my peach fuzz; but my face was oily at the time and I used it the first time. There was no irritation for me, just some slight redness from trying to get it to shave good. The redness went away in a short time. Hair removal: This shaver is awesome!! It gives a VERY close shave, and very smooth! This is by far the best shaver that I have used on my face! I am post menopausal, and have hair and fuzz growing all over my face! I bought this trimmer replace my previous trimmer, which I bought several years ago for just $5. I thought I would be getting an upgrade with this trimmer, assuming that if my cheap one worked so well this one would work even better. Sadly, while the Philips trimmer looks and feels nice, it doesn't seem to trim anything at all. I tried it on both short stubble and longer hair and nothing at all was clipped.
