  • Excellent quality gloves for rope handling
Size: Small Color: Beige
The training that I've been involved with for the past few months has involved a lot of knot tying, rappeling, belaying, and other rope skills. So the requirements for the gloves we use are quite steep - durable, dextrous, and well padded. Some of my teammates traded off the durability and went with cheaper but well padded work gloves, thinking that they can replace them more easily. I went with a more expensive work glove with goatskin leather and a reinforced palm, believing in their claims of durability. These gloves were indeed dextrous, but I could definitely feel the friction of the rope on rappels and on a canyoneering trip, I burned holes into two fingers just after one day. Enter the Petzl K53 Cordex Plus Midweight gloves. I chose these over the lightweight Petzls because the leather is doubled up over the fingers. They are surprisingly nimble considering how much leather you have around your fingers. I actually find that I can tie knots faster with these because the leather is less likely to get snagged. The leather so far has held up well...not even the slightest bit of wear after a day of rappeling. All the seams remained tight and intact and the stitching shows no signs of fraying. I'll update the review more as I get to beat these gloves up. The palm is heavily padded to the point where it's a little difficult to tell if you're really holding a rope. The padding is really effective as I did some fast rappels and there wasn't even the slightest bit of discomfort. The lack of feeling in the palm does concern me for when I'm tired, cold, and my hands are numb - especially when rappeling on a thinner rope. But I suppose as long as you maintain a proper brake position, the grip doesn't have to be the most firm. The only other critique about the glove is that because of the great fit, it is more difficult to put the gloves on especially if your hands are wet. It would have been nice for a little elastic at the wrist so you can open the glove up more and get your hand in. ... show more

  • Daggum, These are Nice!
Size: Large Color: Black
Ultra-comfortable. The goatskin is soft and flexible out of the box, and there is a plush lining inside. The comfort is top-notch. These are the luxury-car of rope gloves. With the stretch panels over the knuckles, my hands don't feel that they're binding anywhere. The wrist opening is very loose, so once you undo the velcro strap, these slide on and off quite easily. Love the carabiner hole for stowing on a belt loop when not wearing these. Past experience makes me weary about the low durability of goatskin. I'll be watching that aspect of these gloves closely. Fortunately, they did double up the goatskin in the rope channel on the palm, and on the first segment of the fingers. And there is no seam in the fingertips. Petzl wrapped the leather completely over the tips, moving the seams above and below the fingers instead, eliminating that nuisance area, as well as a common failure point. Most of the seams are double-stitched. So maybe there's nothing to worry about, after all... ... show more

  • BEST ROPE GLOVES OUT THERE!
Size: X-Large Color: Beige
I've been in technical rescue for awhile now and I've never had a pair of good rope gloves. We always get the ones that allow no dexterity and are so stiff you can't feel what you're doing. The cordex plus midweights are one of, if not the most comfortable glove out of the package that i've ever put on. After a week of rappelling, belaying, lowering, hoisting, tying knots over and over again, and loading patients into stokes baskets these gloves show no signs of wear. The Ringers I had, which they say were XL but felt like a M were already showing signs after the first day. Enough can't be said about how happy I am with these. I will purchase them again if I ever need to and I recommend them to anyone who needs excellent protection, durability, and comfort out of their gloves. Thanks Petzl. ... show more

  • Nice well made gloves
Size: Large Color: Black
Not overly impressed with the comfort of this glove out of the box, required a good break in before the seams in the finger tips are comfortable. The pinky finger is really long but other than those issues this is a well made pair of gloves. I wear a large glove and ordered the large size, initial fit is tight and becomes a bit looser after break in. For the money this is a good glove. ... show more

Great pair of gloves wish they came in XXL as my hands are pretty big.

  • Great Gloves!
Size: X-Large Color: Beige
I bought these for use on the Search and Rescue Team I volunteer with and I'm impressed. The leather is soft yet durable and the padding is very good while still providing dexterity. We had a training session in the rain last week and these got soaked. I'm happy to say that I dried them out and they are as soft as they were before getting wet. The carabiner hole in each cuff makes it easy to attach them to your pack when not needed and the Velcro cuff is perfect for keeping the gloves on your hands. the stretch nylon areas seem like they will provide some venting but I haven't worn them in summer heat yet so time will tell. I will buy these again with no hesitation. ... show more

  • Good choice if on a budget
Size: Medium Color: Black
This gloves are awesome. Just take in consideration before ordering them that if your in between sizes (M-L), the L size will fit you a bit tight but comfortable enough for you to accomplish any task. Don't forget to wash your hands after using them as if they get wet you might end with a black shade because of the dye used to color the product. Used them just a few times doing rappel from a Helicopter, and they still in pretty good conditions. Will keep you updated so you can take the right decision while buying a pair of gloves. ... show more

  • Review from a Vertical Caver's perspective
Size: Large Color: Beige
I really wanted to love these gloves, but I was disappointed with them in a few different respects...enough to, in my mind, justify a three star rating. 1) Consistency of Fit. I tried on five different pairs of these at a local outfitter and the sizing wasn't consistent at all. Let me be clear, the gloves I tried on were actually the lightweight version as the store didn't carry the midweights, but sizing is the same for both versions. Bare with me here. First I tried on a medium which was way too small. Next I tried on a large, which was pretty close but still too small. Then I tried a X-large which fit very well but the index finger of the left glove was way too long and it was also kinda twisted (hard to explain). Tried on a second pair of X-larges and they were too big. Finally I tried on a second pair of larges and they fit a bit snuggly but they were fine. A few days later a couple of caving buddies suggested I return the lightweight gloves for the midweights, as the lightweights probably wouldn't hold up long with muddy cave rope. I returned the gloves to the local store and took a chance and ordered a pair of large Cordex Plus gloves from amazon. I was nervous about the sizing by this point. The gloves arrived quickly from amazon and fit snugly; the thumbs are a bit short but whatevaz. I lucked out in the sizing dept. as these were the best fit yet. My point is that the sizing of these gloves appears to be all over the map. A disappointment considering the price. 2) Showing some definite signs of wear after just two rappels and ascents on lightly dirty PMI Pit Rope. Both pits I used these on were only about 100' deep and the rope wasn't wet. The stitching is fuzzing up along the "rope channel area" on the palm and between the thumb and index finger. I call it my hand pit. Also, the leather is abraded a bit in the left glove's "hand pit" area. Disappointing. I think they should have used a stiffer/tougher leather where the rope glides to minimize or at least delay this inevitable wear. I've decided to just wear my nitrile dipped caving gloves that I always wear in horizontal passage for rappels and ascents 100' and under and save these expensive Petzl gloves for drops greater than 100' where I'd need more heat protection from the rope. I'd then switch over to the nitrile gloves for the horizontal passage to save the Petzl's from getting torn up in the cave. I do want to say that they are constructed very well and out of high quality materials to be sure. Also, these gloves do keep my hands cool even when rappelling rapidly. I can definitely feel the rope when rappelling, ascending, and belaying unlike some of the other reviewers. If they had more consistent sizing and held up better to somewhat dirty rope, I'd gladly give them five stars. For this price, it's three stars from me. ... show more
