This cymbal isn't for everyone. It is a multi purpose cymbal. What does that mean? Is it a crash ride? Yes. Is it a ride? Yes. Is it a crash? Yes. Technically every cymbal can be these things, but the Giant Beat does it all so well. It would sound weird in a metal band. It would sound more appropriate in a jazz group. Listen to "Dark Side of the Moon" or the first 2 Zeppelin albums. Listen to anything by CCR. These guys were all using Piaste Giant Beats. These cymbals are thin and light. Compared to the average ride cymbal which weighs about 2000 grams, the Giant Beat 20 inch weighs something like 1200 grams. That's a big difference. They dent easily. They are distorted in the mounting hole area easily with heavy playing. I'll bet you couldn't even break one of these because they are so malleable. They sound great though. Bright, shimmering. Not much ping for riding and they are very thin. Make wonderful crashes. I have the 14" hi hats. 18" and 20" multis. I love them. I could use them as my only cymbals and be happy. I think they are classic, rich and wonderful sounding. I recommend them. ... show more

I really like the 20" but I found this 18" to be a little too heavy. There is no wash at all and the decay rings like a church bell. I am going to return this and get the thin version. All of the other GB's are incredible.

An excellent crash with a full, musical shimmer and sustain. More nuanced and subtle than 2002s and a bit thinner. If you want the older Bonham sound this is your crash. They are similar in weight to the older 2002s, and thin at the edges, so metal heads might damage these. For lighter players, they are hard to top. If you want more power and volume, the RUDE thins could be the answer. ... show more
