Excellent value. This thing has tons of features for its price. The data logging part works great. This is the only data logger that I have seen that you can launch from your phone/tablet. Most data logging devices require being launched from a laptop (Lascar). Most of the bluetooth meters do not have an offline memory function, they require a device stay connected. With the Owon you cannot actually start datalogging without a mobile device. However, it does not require the device to continue logging. You come back to the meter when it is finished and download the data. You can also stop the logging at any time by holding the bluetooth button and the data generated so far will be safe. It generates a CSV file that is a little funky, but you can clean it up pretty easily with Excel. The Bluetooth connectivity works through all three levels of my house. Keep in mind Bluetooth reception will be affected by having or not having a phone case. I tried a few other meters with data logging and Bluetooth that were much more expensive, and this one seems to be actually working without flaws. I'm using it primarily for its data logging function; I already have six other meters for various tasks. Everything I've used it to take a reading has been accurate enough for me. It runs on AA batteries which is a huge plus for me because of the data logging. The manufacturer claims 170 hours on batteries so you can log for a week. I run rechargeables in it. The included thermocouple was susceptible to losing its reading if it was bumped or moved. However, it included a type-K adapter socket so it works fine with my array of type-K equipment. You won't find anything with this many features for less - I've spent hours searching. I compared this device to the Mooshimeter (purchased and returned), Testo 770-3 (still have - no offline feature), Fluke 289, 902FC, 375FC, Southwire 15190T, Uni-T 71D. I didn't purchase the latter 3 brands, but I have a Uni-T 61D and it works great for connected logging. If it dies, which is always the problem with the cheap stuff, I'll update my review. The negative reviews usually seem to relate to unexpected short life, which a 10 percent or higher failure rate is probably expected at this price point - that's a risk you take unless you buy the extra Amazon warranty. ... show more

Update #1 Lowered rating to 2 stars. I acknowledge that the meter functions are generally accurate. The only function not consistent with my other meters was hFE which is not that important to me. After scanning the QR code and downloading the Multimeter App into an Android 5.1.1 device it would not install. I did download the app on a computer from the Owon website and then put it on the Android device. I was then able to install it and it works. You may have to adjust the Android Developer Options to do it that way. Another reviewer described the .csv file as “funky”. I would call it defective. It did not work when opened in either Excel or Open Office Calc. I have never run into this before but the cell formatting is wrong and I could not figure out how to correct it. I could not get any math functions to work. The work around was to open the .csv file in Notepad and then copy/paste into Open Office Calc. For some reason now my Win 10 Excel does not work anymore which may be a coincidence but it happened while I was messing around with the Owon .csv file. For directly transferring the .csv file to a computer from the meter: From page 33 of Owon Digital Multimeter User Manual: “Use only the Bluetooth USB dongle (optional) supplied with the product.” After much effort I determined that the dongle can be obtained from: LILLIPUT ELECTRONICS USA INC. for $9.00 USD plus shipping (I paid $12) HOWEVER, the software from the Owon website does not work. Just started using the Bluetooth function. The default poll rate of measurements is once per second. But you can change that if you go to "offline" mode. When you go to Offline mode, your BT tablet/device will disconnect from the meter, and the meter will store measurements in its internal storage. I wanted to take a voltage reading every 5 minutes so I made the poll time 300 seconds. CONS: - Instructions are not easy to understand. - Buttons in the Android app are nothing I can relate to as a Bluetooth multimeter is new to me. I have to figure out the buttons myself by playing with it. - Font in booklet is too small to read for my old eyes. Please provide a link to the PDF of the booklet in the product description so I can print it in double size. PROS: - Has offline mode where the meter initially connects with your tablet, but then disconnects and stores measurements in its internal memory. Only the "+" model has this offline mode. - Comes with thermometer probe and wires. - Nice thick cables. - The probes come with a plastic cover that only shows a tiny bit of probe metal. - To use the gator clips that came with it, I took off their rubber sleeve, took the probe covers off, and the probes screw in to the special gator clips. This is not a friction fit. - Fresh batteries have been running 20 hours in "offline" mode so far. No problems. - App is free. - Has continuity beeper, can test capacitors, plus voltage, amps, ohms. I haven't tested the other typical MM functions. - Backlight stays on about 60 seconds. This is very good! A 5 second backlight on my other DMM is not enough time.
