The ladle itself is well made and study. It stands up on a plate or counter just fine. However, in soup, it won't stand without being weighted down by something placed in the ladle bowl. It falls over against the side of the pot and takes a nap. I used a sugar spoon to make it stand upright in the Turkey soup for a social media photo. It may stand in something thicker like stew or chili. I bought the jumbo size. I do love it and would buy again. I don't mind standing him on a saucer between servings. Easier than a traditional ladle laying on a spoon rest. And besides...he's cute. ... show more

It's just cute, especially when you're using it. When you're NOT using it, more than likely, its butt is sticking up and its head buried in your other kitchen tool holder. Also not very easy to hand wash it, since the whole neck part is concaved in, so you'd have to struggle to scrub out the food particle that gets stuck in it. I just like to have it around, it's cute to look at, and makes me feel like a cute little chef. I used it once. ... show more

I was happy to see that they were making a larger Nessie ladle. It works fine and is cute but she doesn’t stand up in your pot like the old one did. Mine just flops over for a quick swim in the soup. I will keep and use it, just can’t depend on it sitting in the soup pot. Why does it matter you ask? Well when you are serving soup or stew or peeps are serving themselves it’s less mess if Nessie stays in the pot upright instead of removing her every time and dripping everywhere. ... show more

Who wouldn't love having Nessy or her family? I was sold the second I saw her because.... AWESOME! Doesn't quite live up to the functionality hype. The pictures make it look like you can plop Nessy in you pot and she will stand.....not so much. Nessy's spoon isn't heavy enough to keep her from floating and tipping over. Maybe she would stand in thick stew but definitely not chicken noodle soup. ... show more
