  • Damaged in transit.
Color: Red
A very nice product but mine was destroyed by the shipping company. I highly advise buying direct from the manufacturer.

  • Takes A Beating
Me and a group of guys have been running 35-70 miles of the Verde River in central Arizona every year for over 20 years. 90% of those trips have been in Old Towne canoes. The desert river is a boney, shallow river that has multiple class 3 rapids depending on the year. Canoes have to be tough and agile on the Verde and the many Old Towne models we have used on the river have held up year after year. The river runs through the Mazatzal Wilderness, a remote desert wilderness with very limited access. A dependable boat is almost a life and death necessity because having to walk out of the wilderness due to a destroyed canoe would be a brutal undertaking (heat, rattle snakes, mountain lions, bears, cactus, twisted ankles, scorpions, etc). We have tried other canoes, Mad River, Wenona, not bad canoes but for the money and reliability Old Towne is a must have. We get our Old Townes and outfit them with our own systems for our specific needs (lashing, glue on D-rings, chair placement etc) other canoe manufactures have pretty cool accessories that come with or can be purchased to outfit their canoes but with our experience, the Old Towne's particular Three Layer Polyethylene construction combined with their pricing gives them the nod. Living in Arizona the intense temps and sun will sap life out of polyethylene (plastic), so to get the most years of use out of these types of canoes I use 303 Aerospace Protectant spray for vinyl and try to store my boats out of the elements in a shed or garage or at least keep them covered with a tarp or they will loose their color and probably degrade structurally. ... show more

  • Rugged and Stable. I Use it for Sailing with Sailboats To Go sail kit.
Color: Red
The media could not be loaded. Sure it's big and heavy, but that helps make it stable and rugged! I mostly use it for sailing, with my "Sailboats To Go" canoe sail kit. It can really fly across the water in a good wind. Or you can enjoy just cruisin' along with a moderate wind. Plenty of room for the family and a picnic lunch -- an the dog loves it too! This canoe is so stable I sometimes sail it without the pontoon outriggers that are part of the sail kit. I also do river trips in it without the sail kit (which just clamps on, so it comes off in a jiffy). ... show more

  • Had mine since 1986
I got my sky-blue Discovery 169 in 1986 right at the factory door. It was a "second" due to a miniscule blemish. It is in the same shape it was that day! The color hasn't faded, thwarts are original wood (tiny bit of varnish peel, not enough to repair yet) It has a few scratches from grinding over ledges in the Kenduskeag race in Maine. A couple letters have peeled off the side. What more could you ask for? It has tan colored molded seats, again, no sign of wear or aging! I just don't have to worry about it. We even use it as a kids wading pool in summer!. I ABSOLUTELY would buy it again. (doesn't hurt living a half hour from the factory!) ... show more
