Like many middle aged men, I have thinning hair. If you want to restore your hair there are several expensive and rather invasive options out there. But if you want to maximize what you have, this is a good option. Growing up Old Spice meant the kind of aftershave your Dad wore. Today it's the brand name for a whole host of men's products. I use their antiperspirants and deodorants, their styling products and have used their body washes (though I tend to find their scents unappealing). So when I saw this "thickening" shampoo, I trusted their brand enough to give it ago. I'm glad I did. The smell is fine. It's not amazing and it's certainly not off-putting. By the time I get my styling product in and it competes with my body wash, my deodorant, my cologne and laundry detergent who smells it anyway. But what makes it are the results. My hair looks and feels thicker and as a result styles better. I'd used Dove thickening shampoo for years and it doesn't come close to what Old Spice thickening shampoo achieves. This shampoo is good for thickening up thin hair. By thin, I mean the actual hair is thin and light and feathery type of hair. The 1-2-3 old spice shampoos are the best for that. Unfortunately it is occasionally very difficult to find. If that's Old Spice fault then I would remove at least 2 stars. I've gone through two bottle of this Old Spice Thickening Shampoo. The shampoo is a nice shampoo. A little bit goes a long ways and the bottle lasts for months on mens hair. The lather is thick but washes out easily. It's low-scent out of the bottle and does not have a lingering scent once your hair is dry. I'm not sure I would call this a "thickening" shampoo, though. My hair isn't any thicker after using two bottles. The shampoo does add volume to your hair vs other shampoos. My main attraction to this shampoo is the price, the convenance of the pump nozzle, and the slender shape of the bottle. This bottle does not take up much room in your shower and will fit securely on narrow shelves. The pump nozzle depresses effortlessly allowing for one-handed operation. I gave this shampoo only 4 stars because it's not a true thickening shampoo. But it's a great mens shampoo. ... show more

My family shares this account, so it's the 21 y/o son writing this review. I usually use the 99 cent Suave brand shampoo, and this one is noticeably better for preventing tangles. I'll also preface by saying I have very thick hair naturally - I picked this up because I thought I should maximize my innate potential. Hair feels less thick with this than with Suave, I think because this cleans the hair better. Suave sort of lets more of my oil and dirt persist through a washing, and it's that stuff that helps my hair not sit flat to my head. Smells nice and comes in a cool bottle. ... show more
