This is a perfect guide for those looking to get into Oil Painting. I have always wanted to learn how to use oils for painting. I find oil painting absolutely beautiful and fascinating. Angelina Bell has done an amazing job in explaining the process and making it easy to learn how to do Oil Painting. Angelina not only goes through the process but also explains what you need and gives you a step by step guy into getting started.     • Take The Fear And Guesswork Out Of Learning The Basics Of Oil Painting!
With a desire to put paint on canvas and not having the money for lessons, I wasn’t sure where to turn. However, in my search I came across this fantastic beginner’s guide to oil painting. I was blown away by Bell’s detailed instruction starting with a history lesson, through materials and equipment; there is even a chapter on making your own canvases as well as brush techniques. Also included are a few advanced lessons giving the artist a head start in advancing their hobby or career. All the 5 star reviews must be friends of Angelina. This book is pure junk. Only b&w photos in it, and some are distorted (failure to know Photoshop) - but there's no real advice. It seems written by someone who never painted. Lots of grammatical errors. It's an amateurish homemade compilation of words about many aspects of painting - but no real information is conveyed other than things like buy paint. Extremely terrible book. I'm embarrassed to have bought it, and will see if I can return it. ... show more

Bell has written a great literature on oil painting that introduces the audience through both visual art and writing. I bought the book to broaden my horizon, and to make me more well rounded, and I can say, after reading this book, I now want to tackle oil painting. The teaching in this literature is made simple and runs smoothly, so someone as myself, an amateur can fully comprehend and use what I learned to create the masterpiece I dream of. Where was the editor for this book? I'm not sure this is even English. I kept reading just to see how bad it could get. It offers nothing to anyone that wants to learn to paint. Doesn't really deserve even one star.
