I've been an avid hiker, backpacker, and trail-runner for decades, and have used many different major brands of shoes and boots. While I was doubtful about trying such an inexpensive shoe from a brand that's not well-known in the US, I became interested after seeing that they were designed with a ‘low-drop’ of 5mm in the midsole, and with a wide toe-box, which I appreciate in many of my running and hiking shoes. The stack height looked moderately high, implying good cushioning for long distances and rough terrain. Here are my first impressions after an initial walk of a few miles: -I like the look and styling of the shoe. Not too flashy or gaudy, and somewhat natural in the green color. -There is a large welded toe bumper that wraps far around the front sides of the shoe, where many brands’ uppers tend to eventually split. This should prevent that from happening. -I’m a size 12.5, but unfortunately they don’t seem to make this model in half-sizes above 12, so I had to go with 13, which is a bit too long for me. -The 5mm drop from heel to toe along with the very roomy toe box both are helpful for my main foot issue, which is a painful Morton’s neuroma in the foretfoot. They feel comfortable right out of the box. The midsole foam is on the firm side, rather than plush and spongy. I prefer this for trail running and backpacking shoes, as it provides better protection from bruising from landing on sharp rocks, and better stability with less tendency for rolling an ankle. I prefer the softer foam on road running or walking shoes. -The lace holes are nicely reinforced, and the laces are somewhat ‘textured’, so will probably hold knots well. They are hard to pull through the eyelets with quite a bit of friction, and so have to be tightened one eyelet at a time. -I got good heel lock with no slipping while walking on level ground. I need further time on steep uphills to see if this will still be the case. -The description mentions having some arch support, but it is pretty minor. I have low arches so it doesn’t bother me, but for those with high arches, they may want to put in a different insole. -The sole lug patterns look nice and aggressive. I expect they will have good grip on dirt, gravel, and some mud. I can’t judge how well they will grip on smooth surfaces like rock slabs or wet roots and rocks, or steep sandstone, until I get a chance to try them in more locations and conditions. -I also can’t yet judge how well the mid-foot lockdown will be until I can take them down some steep downhill trail and see if the feet slide forwards and cause toe impacts with the front. It does feel a bit loose there, but I may be able to crank the laces a bit tighter for steep descents. -These feel a bit heavier than either of my similar but much more expensive shoes - the Hoka Speedgoat, and the Altra Olympus. Heavy enough that I don’t know if I’ll use them that much for trail running, but perhaps more for fast hiking and backpacking, All in all, I'm very impressed with the design, materials, and construction. The price is outstanding.

Product Review: NORTIV 8 Men’s Wide Toe Box Trail Running Shoes Rating: 5 stars (Initial Impression) As a dedicated runner who exclusively wears high-end, name-brand wide toe box and zero-drop shoes, I was skeptical about trying a more budget-friendly alternative. However, after getting the NORTIV 8 Trail Runners in hand, I am genuinely impressed. They are nearly identical to the premium brands I usually swear by, and dare I say—actually more comfortable right out of the box. The Breakdown Comfort & Fit The "foot-shape" geometry is spot on. My toes have plenty of room to splay naturally, which is a non-negotiable for me. The cushioning feels plush yet responsive, and I haven't experienced any of the typical "break-in" stiffness you find with some trail shoes. Aesthetics & Build Visually, these shoes hit the mark. The look and style are modern and sleek, comparable to shoes twice their price. The build quality feels surprisingly solid; the stitching is clean and the materials don't feel "cheap" or flimsy. The "Missing" Features If you are a serious trail runner who uses gaiters to keep debris out, there are two small omissions to note: There is no metal attachment point at the base of the laces. The heel lacks the Velcro "Gaiter Trap" strip. While these are missing, they are very easy DIY modifications to make if you’re handy with a bit of adhesive Velcro and a small attachment ring. Pros: Cost: A fraction of the price of big-name brands. Comfort: Honestly feels better than my "name brand" pairs. Style: Great colorways and a sleek silhouette. Cons: No Gaiter Attachments: Missing the front loop and rear Velcro. Durability: Yet to be tested on technical terrain. Final Thoughts (For Now) I haven't had the chance to put these through the ringer on a technical trail yet, so I can't speak to the long-term durability of the outsole or the upper mesh. However, based on initial look and feel, NORTIV 8 has produced a serious contender in the wide-toe-box category. I will update this review once I have 50+ trail miles on them to see how they hold up! Update: I just finished a 28+ mile run on pretty technical trails and the shoes were great. I have just shy of 50 miles on the shoes and have had zero issues. They're great! 2nd Update: I just crossed the 300 mile mark in the shoes and they're holding up great. Nearly all of the miles have been on technical trails. The tread is unscathed and they are honestly holding up better than the name brand zero drop shoe that always has the same failure point on the inner arch.

As with Nortiv 8's wide toe box hiking boot, I was surprised with the quality for the price on this shoe. I found them true to size and as described. With the additional top eyelet, I have very little heel slip (this has been an issue in low shoes as I start out on my non-minimalist wide toe box low drop journey). There's still a bit, but these are mostly my errands shoes rather than exercise shoes, so I decided to keep them as it's by far the least heel slip I've had over low Topos and one type of Whitin low shoe. I have a flatter, lower volume foot and trim ankles. SOLE wide fit and PowerStep wide insoles fit, and I'm using the SOLEs with them. The factory insole DOES come out, but one was harder to get lifted out, so I get why a couple other reviews say they aren't removable. If you lack some manual dexterity, grab a butter knife from the kitchen to get some leverage and they'll come right out. The fairly maximalist midsole is supportive and feels fairly dense, with less "bounce" than Topo Zipfoam but still great support. The wide bottom is laterally stabilizing and while it is a little chunky, you get used to them fast. The overall shape is good at facilitating a forward stride. As others have said, on certain parts of a restaurant's vinyl floor they felt a little slippery, and on old wet tiles near my gym's pool. No issues on normal surfaces yet. They are definitely breathable, I can feel the wind come through, or even air if I am walking at a good pace. It started to sprinkle while I was out the other day, and the water gets immediately absorbed into the knit, so these won't be your all-weather shoes. I'm picky about color and design and the green is interesting and different without being distracting. Overall, especially since I got a sale price, I'm quite happy with these. Great shoe to try if looking to get away from the premium brand price or to test out the wide toe box, low drop, non-minimalist shoe game (join us)!

As a woman, I am singing the praises of the NORTIV 8! I absolutely love these shoes! I have been considering buying a popular and rather expensive brand of hiking/ running zero drop wide toe box shoe for awhile because only being in my 40's, I have old lady bunions, which I'm trying to correct. After reading the reviews of these I ordered a pair for my son and once I saw his, ordered a pair for myself. We both love them. I typically wear a Women's 10 regular width in running shoes and the size 8 in these shoes fit me absolutely perfect! Normally any mens shoes I try to wear are too wide across the mid foot or just have an overall sloppy feel on my foot. My toes feel free and I can now wear shoes all day long without being ready to get them off at the end of the day. The first day, there was some stiffness along the big toe edge, which caused some soreness, but once they were broken in day 2, I haven't had that problem. The quality of this shoe is superb, incredible value for the money! I don't buy cheap shoes, my running shoes have always been in the $100 range and I have been ok with that to get the right fit and a quality shoe. I was a little skeptical at a mid $50 price point, but boy did they surpass my expectations. Time will tell on how they hold up. I have pronation and usually wear a correction shoe, so I was sure how the flatter insole would work for me, but they are perfect and supportive. While it is a bulkier show with a thick sole and wide toe box, they are light with nice wearability and so well designed to not look awkward. Lastly, the tread on the soles provides great grip for off road running / walking or hiking.

I hope this review helps anyone who's losing their mind trying to find a good pair of hiking shoes. I bought these for the Camino de Santiago in Spain, and they were awesome. I brought two pairs of hiking shoes—these and another brand—but I ended up wearing these the entire trip. They're extremely comfortable, have great traction, and are very breathable. They also have excellent cushioning, which really helps during those long hours of walking. The wide toe box is another huge plus because your toes won’t feel crammed together like sardines. I tried on dozens of different shoes, and none of them convinced me except these. Trust me, you won’t regret buying them.

These shoes surprised me in the best way. I was unsure about the wide toe box when I first saw them, but my feet have never felt this comfortable in a pair of shoes. The blue/orange color is spot on and unique. They’ve handled gym sessions, hikes, and everyday errands with no problem. I am so grateful to have found these shoes. I’ve been on a desperate search for hiking shoes to wear on a future Alps trip, and due to generics and various environmental factors (eg, I have seriously messed up feet), the ONLY shoes I can wear for any length of time are T*v*s and B****ks****s and these random generic wide toe box sneakers from China (found here on Amazon) in which I put W*lkF*T orthotics. None of which will work for 10-day /100 mi hike over mountains. But I reasoned if generic, non-brand shoes available only on Amazon enable me to walk 30k steps a day at Disney or across Europe, maybe I could get lucky with trail runners. So I searched and researched and found these. BTW, I tried T*p* UVs before these at the recommendation of ChatGPT. They were very cushiony and worked for a mile or two, but they lacked support and felt unstable. Even orthotics didn't help. In comparison, the Nortiv shoes felt…sturdy. Solid. The arch support wasn’t great, but the pain was not awful after 30 min of standing/strolling nor did my feet burn once I sat down (the 2 'tests' I use to evaluate shoes). Then ChatGPT recommended the game-changer: Pow_er_Step Pin_na_cle plus met inserts. I took out the Nortiv insoles and put in the Powerstep ones. OMG. I walked 7 miles on my treadmill varying from 0-15% incline on the first day with this combo of shoes and inserts. Very little complaining from the feet. More impressive: not a single blister. I didn’t need to break these shoes in. Wow. The next day, I hiked 7 miles on rocky, rooted, muddy trail. My feet were ABSOLUTELY FINE. Not a peep!!!! And still no blisters! I could have kept on going but didn’t have time. Holy moly, I've found the holy grail!!! Now, these shoes aren’t perfect. Despite being trail runners, I slipped several times on wet rock and skidded on mud so traction isn't great. They attract dirt more than my hiking boots so I'll need to buy gaiters. They aren't water resistant (but don't claim to be). But I managed dirt trail and gravel just fine and they cleaned up well when I got home. Most importantly: NO PAIN. Thank you, Nortiv, thank you Amazon, and thank you Pin_na_cle who I've already left a review for as well. And now ChatGPT knows about these shoes, too, because I told it.

The shoes are comfy right out of the box and fit my foot well. I have owned them for about 2 months, with minimal runs during that time, and the tread near the balls of my feet are already gone. I wondered if they came that way and I just hadn't noticed, but I have a second pair I've bought as a backup and the tread is fully intact in the same region of that shoe. I know these are "trail" shoes, but after12 miles of pavement running in the last week I could easily see the difference in tread height between Sunday and Saturday. I know the shoes are "cheap", but I expected better durability in the tread as I feel the shoes are worn out with less than 50 miles of running.
