  • Captures Invaluable Lessons Learned and Points Us to the Right Resources for More!
Darian Rodriguez Heyman's Nonprofit Management 101 is excellent! I am so happy to have this for my survey course on NFPs for environmental studies grad students. Darian has done a great job introducing the key topics, finding the right contributors, and providing guidance on where to find more information on specific topics. This book is the best resource I've found to date because it introduces what we need to know about and why and where to find good solid information. And the list of Do's and Don't's at the end of each chapter are right on! Darian asked his contributors to write from the point of view of what they wish they had known when they first started getting involved in the social sector. This way he has captured invaluable lessons learned. Wishing I'd had this book a few years ago myself.... ... show more

  • Heyman Book Review
I found Darian Heyman's Nonprofit Management 101 to be one of the most extensive and well constructed manuals that I have ever seen targeted specifically for the nonprofit industry. From the beginner who wants to form a nonprofit to the seasoned professional who's been managing a nonprofit for decades, there's something for everyone. This book is inspiring and encouraging for anyone with a passion for nonprofits. As the founder and president on the board of directors for a registered New Jersey 501©3 nonprofit corporation for nearly a decade, I can say with confidence that this book will enhance and perhaps even revitalize your current systems, methodologies, and programs. I highly recommend Darian Heyman's Nonprofit Management 101! Poul Erik Graversen Founder and President Matty's Cause, a New Jersey Nonprofit Corporation ... show more

  • Perfect compliment to MNA course work
I was introduced to Darian's book prior to applying to graduate school for a degree in Non Profit administration. This book actually gave me direction when I crafted my application to school along with my personal statement required for admission. It's been a thorough and fabulous point of reference. Now that I'm in my second semester, I've found it to be a perfect compliment to my required texts and a great additional resource for my papers. Bravo Darian! Looking forward to your next book. ... show more

  • Excellent resource for nonprofit professionals
This is a must-have book for anyone (especially leaders) in the nonprofit industry. I am the leader of a nonprofit center, and spend a lot of time training executives and board members in the field. This book is an excellent resource, providing in-depth information from experts in the nonprofit world. I also teach communication for a university (undergrad and graduate). I will be incorporating this text into our classes. The book is relevant and offers excellent information/ideas that are easy to apply. It's obvious the authors are writing from years of experience and expertise. Once you buy it, you'll find yourself referring to it over and over. • Great Book!
Hi Darian/Laila, I just wanted to thank you for writing such a great book and assembling such knowledgeable and experienced professionals. It's a Godsend! We just formed a non-profit in early 2011, and me and our board members are using the book to guide us as we take this amazing journey. The book is easy to read and is written in down-to-earth language that we all understand. Thanks again....and keep up the good work! Sincerely, Miguel M. • Not for tiny all volunteer groups
I've just become a board member of a very small, all volunteer, humane society that I have been active in for seven years. Wanting to do a good job as a board member I went looking for books that might help me learn what is expected of boards and how we might grow our organization. This book is probably a good one for much larger organizations and it did contain some very helpful information but it's geared toward groups that are much bigger, have physical space and paid staff. ... show more

This book has given me so many ideas to try and follow up with for our nonprofit activities. I thought this book would be too basic but it actually helped me remember things that we wanted to try and neglected. And, it gave us multiple great check lists that we could use for both implementation and review to make sure we did things correctly and stayed on track. I normally do not reviews of the books we buy but this one sure deserves it. Buy it and keep it as your go-to reference guide. ... show more
