  • Hardware review & If you consider yourself a average computer user, PLEASE READ.
I am a retired Machine Tool Repair Tech from the aerospace field of 39 years where I have worked on CNC equipment. I have also used the following software programs; JDE, One World, SAP (what a nightmare), MP2 Datastream, AutoCad (for my design work), MiniCad, the typical Microsoft Office and many other misc programs. Even with this I consider myself a average computer user, for there is a difference in "using" vs "setting up". The 5 stars is for the Hardware. For the $ this is a very robust little machine. The linear bearings & raceways along with the leadscrews are 1st rate. The linear bearings are incorporating a seal/wiper assy. I'm not 100% sure, but it appears the leadscrew nut assembles are utilizing a spring to take up the backlash, which is a proven technique that dates back to the 40's. The main plate parts that make up the machine are non-metallic, don't let that deter you for the family of plastics have come a long way. 3 Stars for downloading the software though for 2 reasons, "steps/labels" did not match completely & the "unknown - what to do". I purchased a new laptop with Windows10 to be designated to this machine. After setting up the laptop I started the steps of downloading the Ready2Control software & the 1st minor issue was verification of my e-mail address. Well I did not set up e-mail on the laptop (my fault here), OK went to my other computer fired it up and responded. Back to the laptop to continue now came the big hurdle - to enter a 72 character Key Code that was sent via e-mail, well couldn't copy & paste so the download timed out when I was writing it down to enter it manually. Was able to reset where I was in the download process & was sent another Key Code this time I took a photo then typed it in (did not want to be stuck in the middle & try again later, part of the unknown). When it came time to download the VCarve software there is no step by step process they assume you know what to do. I just took my time, read all and thought about logically. There are 3 download segments & you will need to register twice. Once for the machine & manufacture then for you which you have 90 days after they send you a updated user name & code. The SD100 user manual is well written but needs updating. The VCarve tutorials are very well done. After all this I tried one of the Ready2Control examples and all ran fine! Hope you found this helpful. ... show more
