I've been using the plastic "X" style tape for over 1.5 years and switched to Nexcare 3 weeks ago. I like it so much more than the individual X tapes. I highly recommend trying out Nexcare as mouth tape while sleeping. Cost: This is a no-brainer. The plastic "X" style tape strips individual tape strips are very expensive. Nexcare is cheap *and* the roll looks like it's going to last a very long time. Ease of use: Nexcare is on a roll and can be easily torn with fingers alone. The edge of the roll is easy to find and pull up because the tape has a little bit of thickness. So, getting a piece just before sleeping is quick and easy. The plastic "X" style tape strips require some fidgeting with the paper or plastic that the strip comes on, and I almost always ended up bending a corner of it onto itself. Feel: Nexcare is soft to the point where I forget it is on my lips at all. The stiff plastic "X" style tape strips are not very comfortable and could make my lips a bit itchy at times. Reapplying: The Nexcare tape is super sticky and easy to apply and reapply -- I sip water about 2x per night. The X tapes did not stick as well after reapplying, but the Nexcare is just as good. Lip balm: I can also apply some lip balm to the corners of my mouth when needed after putting on the Nexcare tape, and only the edges of the tape lose their stickiness. When I tried that with the plastic "X" style strips, the entire tape would lose its stickiness almost immediately. Residue: Some reviews said they get a residue on their lips after taking the Nexcare off. I haven't experienced that. It's possible that some rolls have this problem and others do not. Or that it's very sensitive to heat, and that occurs after too much heat exposure. I'm only guessing, though. Customizability: Since you tear off a piece of Nexcare tape with your fingers, you can customize it to the perfect length for your lips. I only cover about an inch of my lips, so I could always breathe through the corners of my mouth while sleeping, if necessary (but this hasn't happened). The plastic "X" style strips are one size only. Trust: The companies that sell the plastic "X" style strips change all the time. I could never buy the same product twice (3+ months apart) because they would disappear, only to be replaced by another company and a different-looking product. Nexcare is made by 3M, which has been around for decades and is used in medical settings. I trust the ingredients of Nexcare much more because of that.

Bought this to try out mouth taping to try and get better sleep and I absolutely love it. Granted, I haven’t tried any other brands or styles but I refused to pay the prices other brands are charging for “mouth tape”. I cut one piece off horizontally and then cut that piece once vertically and just tape it diagonally across my mouth. I do have to ensure my upper lip, lip, and chin are dry enough for the tape to stick, meaning i have to either do my skin care a couple hours before or skip it on those areas. It’s not a big deal, but it is worth mentioning.

Works good, not spectacular, but I have a mustache so this might be an issue. I applied the tape on area just under mustache area, not really on the stach itself but not much skink area there. Doesn’t adhere to mustache or bearded areas well but sticks well on lips and not too difficult to remove.

I recently tried the Nexcare Strong Hold Pain-Free Removal Tape for keeping my mouth closed overnight, and I am thoroughly impressed! This tape is incredibly effective at providing a secure hold without causing any discomfort. I appreciate that it’s designed for sensitive skin, as I experienced no irritation or pulling when I removed it in the morning. The hold is strong enough to keep my mouth closed throughout the night, but it comes off easily and painlessly, which is a huge plus! This is my favorite mouth tape. I have trouble sleeping with my mouth closed but this tape literally shuts my mouth. I’ve used tons of mouth tapes but this one is def my fav. Give it a try!

I tried this for mouth taping and right away I felt like it wouldn't stay on. That worry kept me from falling asleep cuz I was constantly checking it. A lot of times after I fall asleep I will wake up in the middle of the night because I can feel it coming off. Sometimes if I replace a piece of tape with another from the same roll it will feel a lot stronger, but I shouldn't have to waste tape to find a piece that's sticky enough. At least it doesn't leave any residue
