How to Choose the Right Type of Embroidery Stabilizer for Your Fabric? A stabilizer used to support the fabric during stitching to avoid the puckering and stretching is an essential for machine embroidery. Generally, stabilizers are classified as cut away, tear away, wash away. Here we will direct you to choose the proper stabilizer for your fabric and design among New brothread machine embroidery stabilizers. Tear Away Embroidery (Medium Weight 1.8oz) Tear away stabilizers are used when you wish to remove most of the excess stabilizer from the back of the project after embroidery. It was recommended to be used on woven fabrics that have no stretch like quilted fabrics, 100 percent cotton, poly cotton fabrics, linen, vinyl, leather... Cut Away Embroidery (Medium Weight 2.5oz) Cut away stabilizer must be removed by cutting it away and the rest behind the stitch will remain on the fabric for the life of the design. Cut away stabilizer is considered the most stable stabilizer. It is typically recommended for unstable and stretchy fabric such as knits and high-stitch count design. Wash Away Embroidery Stabilizer (Light Weight 1.5oz) If your project requires no traces of the stabilizer to be left after embroidery, you must use a wash away stabilizer. The strength of support offered by a wash away stabilizer is significantly less than cut away or tear away stabilizers. Wash away embroidery stabilizer is recommended for lightweight fabric and Free Standing Lace. No Show Mesh Embroidery Stabilizer (Light Weight 1.8oz) No Show Mesh is also a kind of cutaway embroidery stabilizer which will remain forever fixed to your fabric but it is sheer and semi-transparent which is not for very heavy design. No show mesh stabilizer is recommended for light colored fabrics. It is extremely soft for baby garment and some fabric when soft is a very important consideration. Read more Water Soluble Topping Film (Light Weight 25Mircon)) Water Soluble Toppings are used only on the top of the fabric to control the nap of the fabric. It is best used on napped fabrics such as towels, knits, velvets, or velveteens to prevent the stitch sinking into fabric. They are too lightweight to be used as the backing stabilizer. Fusible Iron On Embroidery Stabilizer (Light&Medium Weight) Fusible Iron On stabilizer has a side with shiny coating which can be ironed to the wrong side to the fabric, so it can be fix to the fabric without a hoop. Using Fusible Iron On stabilizer will prevent stretching of the fabric during the hooping process. • Works for masks
Size: 8"x8" 100 sheets
While looking for sew in interfacing to make masks, I had a hard time finding the recommended brands and decided to give this a try. I made two patterns- the standard pleated square and the Olson mask, opting for the second since it has a pocket (in case this didn't work out). I washed the interfacing by hand to see if it could even hold up to water, then cut it, basted it, and made my masks. They turned out stiffer than those I'd initially made with fusible interfacing, but felt like they filtered the air better- I'd say slightly more than a standard dust mask (bear in mind this is all subjective). On the pleated masks this added quite a bit more bulk to the pleats, so going slow is important (or use your walking foot if you have it). After they were made and used I hand washed them in hot water (about 140°F) and disinfectant and hung them to dry. The masks felt just as sturdy and stable as they did pre-wash, though they did need a quick press. As for whether these are suitable for hospitals, I'm unsure, as I currently make masks for friends and family. In terms of allergens, I'm a rather allergic person (hah) and had no trouble with this material. Your mileage may vary, however. At minimum it's probably best to make sure to encase the interfacing between two layers of fabric. I plan to keep making masks, and I'm so glad I found this material. Edit: meant to say, I also basted this in to the face pattern pieces of the Olson mask, so as not to worry about adding filters, and it worked wonders. Be sure to trim the corners before turning! ... show more

  • Excellent product
Size: 8"x8" 100 sheets
I did not do my review right away as I wanted to test the product against what I used in my business of 30 years, (I'm retired now but still do a lot of embroidery). I tested it by using the same type of product as I used before. The size is perfect for small embroideries and I was impressed by how easy it was to remove it from the back. The smaller pieces that I didn't bother to remove were no problem after washing and drying several times, the embroidery still looked very nice. It works exceptionally well for in-the-hoop projects because it tears cleanly away. I was impressed to see it was an even product without any signs of thin or thick areas and good value for the money. I recommend the tear-away from Brothreads! ... show more

Size: 8"x8" 100 sheets
Works for what I need. Holds my fabric in place as long as I make sure the stabilizer is pulled tightly once in the hoop. I'm a newbie to embroidery but my projects have turned out great using this stabilizer Good value for how many you get and the thickness worked well with my needles. I found these very easy to tear away and am happy with my purchase. ... show more

  • Did not measure to the correct size.
Size: 10"x12" 200 sheets
Not sure why this has so many 5 star reviews. I ordered the pack of 200 and the sheets are not the same size in one package. For the longer edge, one half measured ~12.25” and the other half of the package measured ~11.75” (I guess they averaged tic 12” 🤷🏻♀️). The shorter edge seemed the same throughout the entire package, which was about 9 5/8” so it was 3/8” (~1cm) short from the 10”. ... show more

  • Excellent Quality
Size: 10"x12" 200 sheets
I love this stabilizer. It is a nice weight. It is very strong but doesn’t distort the stitching when you tear it a way. It tears very nicely.

  • My new go to stabilizer brand.
Size: 10"x12" 100 sheets
I was buying from a brick and mortar craft shop and having to wait for sales or coupons because it was expensive. I don't have to do that with this stabilizer. When you do the math, the price per sheet is very low, just a few cents really, and I can make several key fobs or embroider a kitchen towel with one sheet. Love the convenience of not having to cut the stabilizer myself. It tears away easily but not so easy that it tears while in the hoop. Will definitely be ordering again. ... show more

  • Hard to remove - added hours to my project
Size: 10"x50yd roll
I have been doing machine embroidery since the first home machines came out. This product felt fine before I used it, my mistake for not testing it after my first ith panel! It is almost impossible to get it out. I have to use a pointed weeder for vinyl weeding to get the tear-away feature started. It is not an easy tear away - it tears fine along long straight lines. I have to eat this roll and just use it for straight lines - not much of that so I will be expensive tracing paper. I bought this when I got the newest machine - didnt get a chance to use until this weekend. Would return if it was within the time allowed. ... show more
