  • Third pair
This is my third pair of New Balance 990v3. I have the blue, gray and now black pairs. I'll keep this short since shoe reviews are pretty straightforward to me. This shoe reminds of how shoes used to be made. These days I can't hardly buy shoes online because the sizes vary so much between brands. The 990v3 is a perfect fit for me in 11 4E. To give you an idea of how much other brands vary for me: I own and wear a pair of Nike Air Max that are sized 12.5. A pair of Adidas Thrashers that are sized 13. A pair of Brooks Glycerin in size 11.5 2E. And when I need to put work boots on, I have a pair of Red Wing's that are size 11. The boots don't need wide width since they are cut wider than running shoes. An interesting note: Both the Red Wings and these 990s by New Balance are part of "Heritage" collections. Also, if you have New Balance not from the Heritage line, your size most likely won't be the same. I bought a pair of New Balance hiking type shoes here on Amazon and have a review of them in my history that were way too small on me even though I got the same size I wear in the 990s. Quality and workmanship are both very high on these 990s. They're comfortable, even comfortable enough to leave on once you get home from work. The padding is very balanced, unlike most running shoes that tend to pad in the front, middle or heel. I've never complained about the price of these either. As a former athlete, I have had numerous severe/serious/needed surgery injuries to my legs, especially knees and ankles, but these shoes just feel good on my legs. My oldest pair of 990v3's are a couple years old and are still worn when I mow our yard. The padding in those are breaking down a little, but I wore them nearly everyday for a year before buying my second pair. To add to the durability of these shoes, I'm well over 6' and weigh between 250-300 at any given time. I couldn't be happier about spending another hundred and fifty dollars on the same pair of shoes I already have. They are well worth it. Last, I don't doubt those who are having the cat urine smell problem, but I can say I've not had it with any of my pairs of 990s. I can't recommend any shoe any higher than these. ... show more

  • Great buy
Love these shoes. Fit great, look awesome, but most importantly they are so comfortable out of the box. I have people stop me and ask where I got them

  • Dream shoes!
I have metatarsus adductus and must wear custom orthotics. These shoes accommodate orthotics well. I bought them for hiking, not trail running, in the warmer months. They let my feet breathe and feel cooler. The thick squishy outsole adds loads of comfort and lets me hike longer, as I'm no longer getting shin splints. They also weigh far less than my Keen Targhee 2s, so less fatigue. Not sure why people are so fixated on the shoes being noisy. They make a light scratching sound on pavement or stone but thats it. I find it pleasant sounding and since i don't hike on paved surfaces i don't mind it. They really do feel like walking on marshmallows but they are also stable. The rocking shape also cuts down on pain. Considering getting another pair for everyday use. ... show more

  • Great purchase
Size: 8 Wide Color: Grey Matter/Copper/Quarry Blue
Favorite runners. Very comfortable and great quality. Only issue is the toe seem a bit tight even though there is so much more room in the she. Other than that I am loving this purchase

Why did you pick this product vs others?: I've had experience with this brand and shoe design and it fits and works well for me.

  • Defective Shoes
Size: 9.5 Color: Black/White
I bought these for a month long trip to Europe. They were the identical shoe and size as a pair I bought in March 2022 from REI. My old pair fit great, worked well for me, and I had no problems wearing them without socks. I walk most every day and had worn them a lot. I never have to break in shoes. Most all athletic shoes work fine for me out of the box. Unfortunately, I did not wear these new ones much before I left for my trip assuming they would be identical. They weren't. I had noticed the shoelaces were oddly short. I could hardly tie a bow. (See photo.) That should have clued me in something was different. They were also laced up pretty tight - maybe so the short shoe laces were less obvious. They felt more snug than my old ones but I thought I was wearing socks and maybe that was the problem. After walking for a day or two on my trip I developed blisters on both little toes and I definitely felt the toe box was shorter and snugger. Feeling inside the shoe I found scratchy seams, maybe dried glue. But the bigger problem was knobby bumps coming out from the sides - like the material had gathered a little when glued or sewn - and the bumps rubbed against my toes. I was uncomfortable for a month. Once I got home I compared the shoes to make sure the sizes were the same and they were. The old ones were smooth with no lumps on the inside. The new ones still feel too short and they rub my toes. I wonder if these were actually factory seconds. If I had paid $49 I might be less critical, but I paid about $100 for them. It is too late for me to return them. The seller on the pair I bought is different than shown here, but if I go to the shoe on the seller's store it takes me here. I'm not sure if it is the same company or what. ... show more

  • Best shoes ever!
Best shoes ever! Super cushiony my only complaint is they are loud when you walk from the hard rubber on the bottoms.
