    • Great for everyday trail running.
I have wide feet and generally wear Altra or Hoka running shoes for road and trail. However in the PNW I need a gore-Tex option in the winter. It is impossible to find gore-Tex shoes from most brands in wide options, so new balance is where I have to go. This is my first pair from the hierro line and I like them. I have about 80 miles so far and they are comfortable and forgiving and they have great traction on trails of various types. Paired with some gaiters they are great here in the PNW. The issue holding me back from a 5th star is that the foot bed doesn’t provide a secure feeling on more technical trails. It feels like I am sliding over the side or front of the sole when on steel or really rough terrain. On most trails in city parks or relatively flat ground, this isn’t an issue and they are perfectly fine. ... show more

Almost a Perfect Shoe... almost. Well, I have to deduct 1 star because this model has a huge design flaw. Shoe tongue is flappy and soft and without an extra hole/loop for shoelaces to keep it up in ready position, so the tongue is falling into/inside the shoe all the time. You just have to hold the tongue all the time when you want to put on those shoes (you can't put them one without hands help). After, you always have to adapt the tongue position... I hope it will not move left/right under heavy usage/pressure - the time will show. ... show more

I really like these sneakers. I'm a pretty big guy for a runner and I needed some good cushion. These have been great. The laces are the best laces I've ever had on any shoes - they never come untied.

My go to series of shoes for Thru Hiking. I have several thousand miles with this shoe series. Vibram soles are sticky even on wet surfaces. Great shoe. As always, I change the stock insole out for Superfeet Orange or Green. Happy trails!
