  • Awesome shoe but the high top isn't for my husband
Size: 8.5 Color: Black/Timberwolf
I got these for my husband as a gift and because I love this brand. He has diabetes and his hiking shoes ate him alive on a week-long backpacking trip through the Rockies. It messed up one of his toes badly. To help his healing I got these for him. He couldn't believe how wonderful they were, but it bothered his ankle. We returned them to purchase a regular height shoe, and they are his new favorite. The ankle part is personal preference, but the shoes are awesome! ... show more

  • Comfortable and functional.
Size: 15 Wide Color: Black/Magnet/Hot Marigold
True to size and is very comfortable to wear. I haven't had any issues with them. I wear them for casual wear in the winter. The Gortex liner makes them warm and dry. I am not able to hike anymore so l don't know how they are for traction, but l would assume they are good due to the lugs on the soles. I am not into style as much as l am into function and these have ankle support that l need. ... show more

  • Ankle Support, Extremely light weight
I like these shoes. They’re INCREDIBLY light in weight. I wear them to the gym, and when I’m doing leg lifts, it’s almost like I have no shoe weight on my feet at all! I like the height of the top, which gives me more ankle support (I have an old sports injury to my ankles that makes extra support desirable). These are of course attractive looking. They have cleat-like pieces on the bottoms that keep the neon green (bottoms) from getting dirty. The only thing I don’t like about these is that when lacing them around the posts/catches at the top, the shoe strings can get caught at the bottom of the posts and make you think that their IN the posts. You find out they weren’t when you look down and your shoe is tied, but loose because the lace has fallen out of the catch/post. These say “toe protect” on the toes area, but it’s just a slightly heavier plastic, not a composite or something of similar nature. I do wish they made these same shoes in a white color. ... show more

  • Love this shoes!
Size: 10 X-Wide Color: Black/Magnet/Hot Marigold
I got double wide for this one and New Balance is one of few companies that sell double wide boots. Of course it is Gore-Tex, so you do not have to worry at all to get your feet wet. Both support and tractions are awesome. I did wear this all day several times and it is very comfortable after walking all day. Double wide width fits me nicely and it is a top notch shoe that I can recommend. Try it! ... show more

  • These have turned out to be great
I had to get the 15 x wide for toe room and width but now the fit is great. Whether I'm walking city streets or forest trails these are comfortable, light weight and support my ankles well. They don't get too hot and don't pick up aot of little stones or dirt. Great model. I looked at lots of different possibilities.Really happy I found these. ... show more

  • Not waterproof
Size: 17 Wide Color: Dark Mushroom/Black Coffee/Neo Flame
I would really like a breathable, waterproof hiking shoe but these are not. They are the most water RESISTANT shoes I have purchased on Amazon & certainly worth $50 but not $120. I have goretex outer wear that is impervious to water so it is hard to understand why these were not the same. I did not even test them in rain, standing water, puddles, creeks or streams; only in 4-6 in long grass after a steady rain. Water only seeped in slightly at the toe but if more water, rain or foliage was present it would be worse. On a positive note the shoes are very comfortable. The laces require double tying - irritating. The eyelets in the shoe are not reinforced so the hole is deforming. Other lace “cleats” are a fabric that may be coming loose at the stitching. The top 2 cleats are metal & are fine. There is a “lip” at the bottom rear heal that almost looks like mold forming excess that should have been trimmed. It may serve as a toe pry point to ease remove of shoe. However it collects dirt & sometimes catches on brush. Hope this aids your decision tree. ... show more

  • Think They Might Be Used???
Size: 12 X-Wide Color: Black/Magnet/Hot Marigold
Aside from being used and being grossed out, I put on some clean socks and tried them on (immediately removing my socks and washing my feet [I might have a phobia]). I walked briefly around the house to check fit. I found them to be a bit short and narrow. I suspect that after walking outside in the Texas heat, my foot will swell, making these shoes uncomfortably short and narrow. I wear, depending on the shoe, a 12-13 4E. My previous experience with New Balance has been 12-4E. I also suffer from a very flat right foot and right ankle issues from a combination of football and Marine Corps injuries and abuse during my youth, so I search for good arch support and ankle stabilization for my right foot. These shoes appear to produce my desired results. I will be returning this pair for a 12.5 4E or 13 4E. Lastly, I have some concerns regarding the GoreTex liner. My previous experience with GoreTex in footwear has been that it has been hot, contained sweat (keeping my feet damp), and not stretchable (preventing leather boots from molding to my foot shape). On the other hand, it’s supposed to breath and keep you dry. Maybe it works better under a textile rather than leather. I’m willing to give GoreTex another shot. I will update this review when I receive a new set of shoes. Update: I chose to get the 13 4E and received them yesterday. They fit well. They were long enough, but still slightly narrow for my tastes, though not uncomfortably so. I decided to keep them and wore them for the rest of the day including a bit of shopping and a small amount of work at my shop, loading a motorcycle into the bed of my truck (out in the East Texas heat/humidity), and well into the night. My feet felt SO MUCH better than usual at the end of my day! They were slightly damp, but I'm not convinced more so than usual. I am VERY pleased. In Summary: Wile not the most stylish for every-day wear or with athletic shorts/t-shirt, they are VERY comfortable, VERY supportive of the arch and ankle, and the cushion is VERY soft and stable. They are perfectly stylish if used for their intended purpose (hiking/trail running) and I think they will look fine with jeans after the weather cools this fall. I have not tested their water resistance, but it appears rain is in the forecast. I'll update this review regarding durability and water resistance in the future. At this point in my experience, I would purchase them again. ... show more
