Picked these up to try and find a rocker shoe with enough width (4E) and volume for my carbon fiber inserts and prescription orthotics. These fit the bill, being able to accommodate both and affording a decent amount of lateral stability compared to others. Most importantly, I can get the carbon plates and orthotics into these and still get a decent heel lock without having to ratchet down the laces. I other words, the depth in the heel is great as well s the amount of cushion in the heel stay. I wish more shoes had a similar build to afford such a great fit in the heel when custom orthotics and such are in the mix. That said, the toe box could be a bit wider up front, like a more natural foot shape (and ideally a straighter last on the outside of the mid foot. The New Balance Kaiha Road feels better in the lateral mid foot area, and is cushy, but lacks the lateral stability that this shoe provides). The heel could be more stable laterally, but it's better than a host of others I have tried and checks all the major boxes for my needs. e.g., The Hoka Bondi 8 is more stable laterally, but lacks the heel lock with the carbon plate and orthotics in the mix.

Ok, so I’ve been reaearching shoes that I can use for staying on my feey 8 hrs/day. I tried Hoka Bondi 7/8, Brooks Ghost Max 2 and these. I passed on the Hokas as they were still tight at the widest part of my foot. The Brooks Ghost Max 2’s were great but almost too mushy, then the NB were puuuurrfect. Same cushioning as the Brooks GM2 but tad more focused on the foot and more support..and they are soooo comfortable. If you are looking for a shoe to walk and stand in..these are it.

I have purchased New Balance shoes for years and I've never had this kind of trouble. First, something is off about the size: my foot slid around inside and caused issues. But the primary issue is that the little orange pieces on the bottom - and I don't know if they are just decorative or part of the cushioning system - came OFF of the shoe starting on the FIRST DAY of wear! Within hours of putting them on, I had this orange piece in the floor of my car. Where did that come from, I wondered. From the new shoe! Over the next 2 days, 3 or 4 of the hexagonal pieces had come off, so this was not isolated to one poorly-glued/secured piece. Sending these back.

I’ve worn difference versions of the 840 for years. These are comfortable and give me the support that I need. The only complaint is that the laces are a little short. I took the laces from my older pair and are using those.

Due to a medical issue I need shoes that are very cushioned, durable, and wide. I’ve tried other shoes that are very cushy, but they weren’t durable and the cushiness wore out quickly. Less cushioned shoes that are durable aggravated my medical issue. Then I saw these and, despite not having a lot of reviews, and a kind of high price point, figured they were worth a shot. I’ve been walking around with these for the past few weeks and I’m impressed! These New Balance shoes check all the boxes: very cushioned, very durable, wide width is perfect, and they’re very stable to walk in. They’re very chunky but really lightweight too. The only thing to be wary of is that New Balance runs SMALL. I sized up 1/2 a size from my normal size, and these fit great. To me the higher price was worth it because these shoes solve my main issues and they’re well made. I plan on buying a back up pair too. Great cushy durable value for the money.

These shoes run at least one size small in length and width. I used a shoe stretcher on them for at least 40 days. Not a true xx wide shoe. they fit good now. The shoe stretcher was a better investment than the shoes.
