  • Better than HOKA
Size: 9.5 Color: Black/Thunder/White
I am a 58 year old very active walker. These shoes are more comfortable than my old Hoka shoes. You get all the support but they don't stretch out or look and feel bulky like the HOKAs. My daughter is training for a marathon and recommended these to us. We walk a lot and they don't wear out nearly as quickly as other athletic shoes. In addition the price point isn't bad and you can catch on sale often. Wearing these shoes is like wearing a slipper and walking on air. You can get normal colors too. I highly recommend!!! ... show more

  • Comfortable
Size: 11 Color: Sea Salt/Electric Indigo
Great cushioning running shoe. Not a huge fan on the vibrant colors but they are visible when running on the roads. Get dirty easy and hard to keep clean. If you need stability they aren't for you. I've only logged a few 5 milers in them but they feel like clouds to my feet. The soles may run into durability issues as they don't have to much tread. ... show more

  • These running shoes are tremendous for walking
Size: 10.5 Color: Black/Thunder/White
I've bought and owned many different pairs of NB shoes, but this was a special case. I was researching shoes comfortable for those with bunions- have developed what is called a "tailor's bunion" on little toe of right foot- and the woman's version of the X 1080 was recommended for those with bunions. So, I figured, what have a got to lose? I did modify them slightly after first trying them on- cut a small hole in the uppers to take more pressure off the bunions. Absolutely perfect- had felt this good walking around in almost a year. But! The design of the toe and heel section of the X 1080 and it's "Fresh Foam" seem to bring another level to the game- because I also dug up a pair of NB 877's I have, and did the "bunion mod" and compared the two. The small hole trick provided the pain relief for the 877's, too. But overall, while the 877's were good, the 1080's are great. It's as if the rounded heel and toe profile unleashes additional energy and verve while just walking- and I do a lot of the latter, minimum of 2 miles a day, but 4 miles if the weather is nice and I don't have too much project work to do. What I haven't done with them is running- I have two artificial hips, did too much running and rough country hiking when younger, so now those activities are off the table. So, while the 877's are pitched as a top tier walking shoe, the X 1080's are the real champ- don't miss out on your best walking experience by overlooking them. ... show more

  • Excellent shock absorption for older feet
Size: 11.5 Color: Black/Thunder/White
This is my second pair of NB Fresh Foam. I love that they're well padded in the midsole. I run on the balls of my feet, and have been jogging that way for 40 years or more. What I like best about this NB model is the padding. The shoes are rigid compared to others and I always have a hard start, the first half mile or so, before they warm up and get a little more flexible. They're not the most flexible, but they are among the most protective for midsole runners. So, the shoes are always a little stiff, especially in the heel area, but that's ok for me. I'm not a heel striker. If you are, this model may also work for you as there's more than enough protection in the shoe's heel cradle. Again, all depends on how you run and maybe how far. ... show more

  • EXPERIENCED RUNNER REVIEW - PRETTY GOOD SHOE
Size: 9.5 Color: Sea Salt/Electric Indigo
I have been running for thirty-plus years, logged over 26,000 miles, and have done plenty of races from 5k up to half-marathons and have gone through more than 50 pairs of running shoes. Bottom line on these shoes (admittedly after only 50 miles): 1) CUSHIONING - these feel LESS cushioned than my older NB1080V10s which I still use. Compared to other running shoes I've used recently like Brooks Ghost, Adidas Ultraboost, these NB are okay so far. But my older pairs of New Balance 1080V10s (two pairs) have over 200 miles on them each pair and they feel more cushioned and better all-around to me. If I could, I would get another pair of the older 1080V10 like I already have (2 pairs), but I can't find them anymore. 2) FIT - I had to go half a size down to a 9.5 on these, because the size 10 was a little too long. Width - standard width is fine for my feet, which if anything are slightly narrow in the mid-foot where you lace the shoes. Once laced up these are snug and don't move around at all and the heel is snug enough also. 3) BREATHABILITY - these do not breathe as well as some of my other running shoes, including the older 1080V10. I've been running in 80-degree temps. with these and while my feet aren't super-hot or sweaty, these could breathe better to help my feet stay cool. I'm not sure why NB and other running shoe-makers have gone away from the older mesh style fabrics that let all the air in like a screen door? THAT IS HOW RUNNING SHOES SHOULD WORK. I've read on some internet sites that shoe-makers stopped using the mesh fabric because mesh fabric lets water in when it rains? Hey, the vast majority of our runs are NOT in wet weather or running thru puddles and so what if your feet get a little wet in the rain. 4) DURABILITY/OUTSOLE WEAR - the outsole (bottom of the shoe) that hits the road looks to have slightly LESS rubber material in the wear areas than my 1080V10s so these may wear out faster but so far no problems. 5) RUNNING EFFICIENCY - When running in these I put in the same perceived effort as my older V10s and the pace per mile per my Timex Ironman GPS watch has turned out to be similar to my older 1080V10s. But as noted above these V12s feel less cushioned than my older V10s which are super plush feeling to me. So my runs feel less comfortable compared to the older V10, OVERALL - not as cushioned as my older 1080V10. So far I like my older 1080V10s better because of the softer cushioning. I may look around for some leftover 1080V10s or V11s which appear to have the same midsole and foam cushioning as my V10. ... show more

  • Very comfortable!
Size: 11 Color: Vintage Indigo/Cosmic Pineapple/Arctic Grey
The shoes are by far the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned. Perfect support for high arches , and well cushoined. I don't run, but I've worn these for miles of walking and they have held up well. Great purchase!
