Playing cards are playing cards…right? Nope. These are actually a step up. I purchased these to replace the 2 decks that we use for one of our favorite family games and was expecting the same ol’ deck of cards that you can find in most stores…these were a pleasant upgrade.. Why? The cards have a slight texture to them which gives them a nice grip for shuffling and dealing. They don’t stick together, are easy to handle and are just plain fabulous cards. The design is easy on the eyes and a little fancier than what you see elsewhere. Highly recommend if you need an inexpensive upgrade for your ratty old deck of cards you currently play with.

For fun, I collect decks of playing cards. I do not have loads of money, so I get what I can afford. When these decks became available to me, I saw that the pattern was different than any I previously owned, so I ordered them right away. In the listing, these decks are described as made from “thick paper stock with blue core construction.” I did not know what that meant, so I looked it up on Google. “The core is what gives cards their ‘snap’, bending resistance, improve shuffle and durability.” Blue core construction is: “Cardstock made by sandwiching a blue opaque adhesive core between two layers of paper and is used to limit the amount of light being able to shine through the cards.” For further protection, they are then coated with a thin layer of plastic. This set comes with 1 blue and 1 red deck, with each having 52 regular playing cards and 2 jokers. They are standard indexed, and poker sized (3.5” x 2.5”). They are easy to deal and shuffle, and come in a reusable paperboard box, which were sealed with a plastic wrapper. I think these 2 decks of playing cards are good quality and durable. I am glad to have them in my collection, and I do recommend them to others. ****UPDATE: I went ahead and ordered the purple and pink version of these cards. The review for these colors is the same as before.

I do two things with playing cards: I collect unusual and souvenir designs, and I play card games with them. I don't do magic tricks or play high-stakes poker. I play solitaire and the occasional card game with my family. These cards are just fine for both purposes. The design is unusual enough to fit in my collection, and the cards work well for games. They are easy to shuffle and feel good in my hands. They are less shiny and have more of a matte appearance than some popular decks. I have two quibbles with the deck. I dislike the design on the joker, which features a jester on a crescent moon holding a pair of binoculars., and I find that the cards are hard to get in and out of the box. Neither of these is a big issue for me.
