Description

In 1959, Jean Craighead George published My Side of the Mountain. This coming- of-age story about a boy and his falcon went on to win a Newbery Honor, and for the past forty years has enthralled and entertained generations of would- be Sam Gribleys. The two books that followed--On the Far Side of the Mountain and Frightful's Mountain--were equally extraordinary. Now all three books are available in one deluxe yet affordable volume for veteran devotees and brand- new fans alike. Read more

  • Great collection in a single hard-bound volume.
If you've never read these stories as a child I suggest you do now, and pass them on to your children. These stories are about a young boy who lives alone in the wilderness and survives the forces of nature and its perils. These stories are true classics and if they aren't having your kids read these books in school then I do 100% suggest you do them a favor and buy this for them. I read these in elementary school 30 years ago and loved them. And I bought this volume to share with my young boy who also loved these stories even though he was born in the generation where screens have replaced books. Whether you want to give your children some good, wholesome, and enjoyable literature to read or just want to enjoy these old classics yourself, I promise you will not be disappointed. These stories are true treasures. Get this while it's still in print! ... show more

  • Great books!
I read the first book years ago with my boys. I was excited to see the trilogy! This is ONE large book with all three stories. If you are buying it for youngsters it might be too big to hold. I don't mind at all.

  • Timeless classic
Written in 1959, but still rings true. A novel you can read to the kids without being worried about things getting perverted.

  • Great gift
Recipient was a 10 year old boy. He was stunned by the size but both he and his mother were very excited about this particular series that is a popular one.

  • A classic!
How fun to find these three books all in one volume! This age old Therauien classic is a nightly read for me and my 9 year old son and his 11 year old sister. The words are sometimes too "dated" or beyond their vocab so you will need to be patient with needing to stop and explain. The size of the volume is quite fat (and short) perhaps I should have gotten a set with all three books in a box but separate books. This combined volume was also a bit pricey ... show more

  • Woo Hoo! GREAT book for boys beginning to read
I am terribly excited by this because I was home one day with the 8 year old and I had gotten him this (because it was one of my favorite books from my childhood, and the only one with a male hero) so we started to read it together but put it away for a while. Well... after he was finished having Harry Potter read to him (the series) and his mom was trying to get him to read some things independently she walks into his room one day and he was about three chapters into the book! So he read the WHOLE thing - the first book he read on his own!! One of the cuter parts was that as he was reading it he kept trying to get his mom to use the recipes in the book :) (that, and he kept referring to the book as "the trilogy".) Really a great book to have around for when a boy is ready to read. PS. not that it isn't also a good book for girls, but there are many other good books out there written with young female heroines for that age range (I would recommend the Westing Game and The mixed up files of Mrs. Basil E Frankweiler) whereas there is a very limited selection of books that are interesting and well written with young male heros. ... show more

  • Great story for nature lovers and kids with a sense of adventure
They made the first part of this series into a movie in the late sixties or early seventies. My son was around 3 or 4 years old and watched it every day. Fast forward, he's 29 now and we were talking about it around Christmas time. He said that he always thought it was just another show and didn't realize that it was a movie. So when I saw that the book was part of a series, I had to get it for him. Imagine that you're a smart young person, studying science and nature and all you want is to go camping with your family. When the trip gets postponed, you pack up and head out on your own, living off the land, taming wild animals and learning things you couldn't have otherwise. ... show more
